One more question re the M button - when its on I have everything on max - when its off its back to normal isnt it? so slow gear change, no sport plus , no throttle difference ?
It's whatever you set it to I believe.

As Max has said - you can set the M Button up to how you wish. When you switch it back it defaults to standard (though I don't think changes the manual or auto setting - leaves you as you were). You can, however, set a default throttle setting in the iDrive. I have mine set to 'Sport' in iDrive and 'Sport+' on the M Button.

The default (non M button) M Key settings are held on a per key basis.
You can set the defaults in the I drive for each key...Power, EDC and shift lights.
While in the M Drive settings, move the I drive controller to the right once or twice until the M Key options are visible. Each key profile also holds the seat position, M button settings, radio and other settings...as you have set them in the car.
Drivelogic resets to default after the engine has been switched off for a certain amount of time.

Now that winter is coming I would advise caution about which drive logic settings to use in low grip.
I use S3 as the gearchange is smooth and less likely to cause the rear wheels to break traction...Probably D3 is the equivalent auto setting.

If you have a mid-late 2011 model, I believe the car should have the Combox in the boot already. If so, I think you're merely a few coding mods away from achieving what you want (plus a cable and different USB socket for under the arm rest).

I'm not too au-fait with the details of what's what on this subject so don't hold me to it, but if you're on M3Cutters, there's a chap on there called Ian (use name alpina527) who is the guru on this and can do all sorts of coding wizardry. He can advise you.

Does anybody drive these in auto mode anyway, I always use the paddles even when driving around town?
I've had my E93 M3 for just over a year, and I think that I've driven it in Manual once. The DCT does everything that I need.

To answer one of your other questions. When selecting M drive and then pressing the button again to turn it off. Whatever settings the car was previously in, it reverts back to. E.g. if you have the car configured to do X at start-up and subsequently you alter the gearbox shift speed or engine mapping (X+1) and then press the 'M' button. Pressing the M button again, will change the car back to X+1.

Btw - there is no additional power produced by the engine (in the 3 different engine maps) as tested by Evolve. The difference is the fly-by-wire throttle. The same pedal movement results in greater changes in the throttle bodies to make it feel like there is more power. The engine noise differs a little too as sounds more aggressive and competition like in M mode.

Just thought I'd mention as many new owners ask the question smile

cheers so if that's the case i may as well have the power button on all the time as it feels better, or does this affect fuel economy ?

I would suggest the middle setting for the power button.
The Power plus setting makes being subtle with the throttle quite a bit harder.

Hi all .

I love the down shift blip on the high gear change setting , I am using auto but does it do it for manual also if you change down ?

Also regarding the exhaust mod I hear there are a few variations when it comes to the back box mod. 2 pipe etc . If I wanted a slight better sound but I def don't want any drone what's the best one to go for ?

Cheers

Yes it does blip in manual aswell.

I have a 2 pipe mod - it is noisier on the motorway but I would't call it drone, you can just hear the exhaust - sounds so much better than standard. Get it done!

I would advise fitting a Russ Fellows's X-pipe to get amazing sound (when you want it, WOT) and stock-like when you don't, i.e. idle, motorway driving plus the benefit of large performance increase (powe & torque) plus a remap. Refer Evolve's website for more details. There is a huge difference in the way the car drives after the mods above and emissions are still acceptable to pass the MOT.

If it's like other E92s the USB in the glovebox is not for playing music from an iPod/Phone/USB-key. If you have pro-nav with the hard drive built in (on LCI models) then you can put a USB key in there and in iDrive there's an option to transfer music from the USB key to the hard drive. If no pro-nav then i think its only use is for software updates.

Sounds the same as my 09 325i. No USB in the centre console means only options are transfer music to hard drive or play music through aux (headphone style connector) in centre console.

Mine has bluetooth streaming so i use that more than anything else now

You need to get a different lead which connects in 2 places (in centre arm rest) which then displays songs on the iDrive.
