One of these should do it, or one similar. The important bit is that it connects via both the USB socket and the pin socket in the centre arm rest. Just check the description of the one you buy states that operation can be made via iDrive (which this one does).

You need to get a different lead which connects in 2 places (in centre arm rest) which then displays songs on the iDrive.
Any idea what this lead is called ?
Thought you said you had no USB in the arm rest?

Oh I missed the bit about lack of USB in the arm rest!

Not sure what the solution is in that case, my current M3 and previous 335d both had the connection.

It's bizarre a 2011 M3 with no USB but my 320 2011 had one

I used the USB and put over 500 tracks on the hard drive with various albums. Problem is the hard drive doesn't sort it in albums or let you search ( I can't find an option for this )

So I have some great music but just have to play it on random which is a PITA

Yeah the original 19" they fit to the e29 M3 from Fuchs and BBS are rubbish, much better to get some cheap reps.

I didn't say that though did I, I was being tounge in cheek. I was simply making the point that BMW themselves have had problems with poor quality wheels in the past too so just because something is expensive doesn't automatically make it good quality and the opposite is also true.

I don't see what the problem is with good quality replicas, the Avant Guard replicas on mine have been spot on so why not? They're a well proven product in my eyes. Have you had a bad experience with this particular brand and style of wheel?
What issues have they had with the Fuchsfelge and BBS wheels as fitted to the M3?

I don't understand why people buy a high performance car with wheels that have been designed for it by some of the worlds best manufacturers and then slap a set of cheap reps on, you clearly think it's fine I think it's daft.

Only cosmetic/finish issues .... I had multiple issues with cracking BMW MV4 wheels on my previous 335i though which I presume by your logic would be superior to 'cheap reps' as they're OEM?

It's pretty easy to understand why people buy them... people prefer the aesthetics of an alternative wheel which they can purchase as a reasonable price for a good quality product with no determent to performance. Simples.

I'll ask you again ... what issues have you had with the 'cheap reps', I'm genuinely interested as mine have been perfect.

Woogie, you need to speak to the chap I mentioned a few posts ago on M3Cutters. He'll clear all this up for you. Chances are that with a bit of coding on his laptop, a combox-to-arm rest cable and a replacement arm rest USB port from BMW (to fit in place of your round, single pin female port currently in the arm rest), you'll be sorted.

From what you describe, I think you're in the same boat as me, although I currently just use Spotify off my phone via Bluetooth. You can also buy a phone cradle for inside the arm rest to charge the phone in situ.

When you've done that, if you want to use your phone to play music via the iDrive screen, then this might be useful: http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/bmw_apps_2013/app...

I suspect the original wheels are pretty heavy, but do you know the weight of your reps? Wheel weight makes a massive difference and brands like OZ make some beautifully light replacement wheels. It honestly makes the car feel like it's changed out of para-boots and into flyweight trainers. Cheap reps may well be heavier.

You're probably right (I haven't weighed them) .... but it's a big old heavy car as it is and I doubt even 1kg of unsprung weight on each corner makes much difference in normal road use. I certainly can't tell the difference.

I once had an E36 M3 with a set of genuine Alpina wheels and a set of OZ wheels. The OZs were approximately 2kg lighter per corner IIRC and I found that it made a dramatic difference to how the car felt during turn in, braking and acceleration. But like you say, when you're stuck in traffic or parking, it's really not going to make any difference at all.

Not sure if any one is on Facebook ' BMW M3 V8 UK owners club' but I posted yesterday about a DCT firmware upgrade I had done . Genuine BMW GTS upgrade for DCT . Makes a lot of difference especially as my MY2011 has never had any updates. Had the engine update and the media update too .

Well worth doing if you have a juddery DCT.

Guys name is Simon who is Litany on m3cutters or Bavarian coding on Facebook . Based in Southampton but he can drive to where you live .
