Afternoon all,

Just a quick one to anyone who has a BMW M2. If you are crawling in 1st gear (comfort mode), at around 4-5mph can you hear an echo like noise coming from under the car? Dipping the clutch stops the noise from happening. The noise sounds almost like the tyre is caught in the wheel arch, but the wheels are straight when the noise happens and it only happens at this speed. As soon as you put your foot down either accelerating or by dipping the clutch it goes. I am only 900 miles in and have heard it a few times in slow moving traffic.

I checked to see if my vehicle was part of the recall for the differential issues and it isn't. It's also not a crunching mechanical sound,

Cheers!

I know, I buy a new one every year smile

Thanks for confirming. I am sure this isn't a normal sound though. It whirs like an echo. Without even telling my girlfriend, she asked me what the noise was. It whirs between 3-5mph and there is an echo that reverbs around the cabin. My run in service will be in the next 2 weeks so I will get them to have a look then.

Have you ruled out the active sound?

That's also something that has crossed my mind. It's too loud for turbo spool up/down, but it sounds so artificial.

Is there anyway I can rule that out? I wasn't aware you could disable it.

Can be bypassed with a cable https://technicpnp.com/product/asd-bypass-harness/

I fitted this the day I got my M2, I'm not a fan of artificial sound generators.

Thanks for the link.

Just an update to say it had the run in service and it turned out the parking brake needed adjusting which is what the noise was at such low speeds. No diff issue or anything major thankfully.
