That's very encouraging to read, thanks Oliver. Certainly looking forward to driving.

For what it's worth, I listened to all the horror stories but bought one anyway. A 2005 CS with SMG in Interlagos Blue (in Australia).

It was very grumpy when cold, but that is something that brought me immense joy - nursing it out of town for an early morning run was sublime.

I bought myself an M3 after listening to the horror stories myself. Considering I have had a B6 Passat complete st itself on me when you don't tend of hear of horror stories with VAG stuff I figured what could be worse?

Mine can be grumpy when it is cold but TBH my Clio 172 as well. I guess the M3 has the potential for alot of vacuum leaks!

Re: the potential for vacuum leaks comment.

Aren't they all grumpy from cold? Mine certainly is, and my old e39 M5 was the same.

I quite like gently nursing it through the grumpy stage. I all adds up to what is a very characterful car.

Which thread? in M-Power? - why not update here: is it a bad update looking at the smiley face?

Sorry chaps, I was having some problems with the subframe inspection receipt for my new purchase. However it has been resolved now. I thought the deal was going bad but now pick up car on Monday. I deleted the other thread and forgot to delete the update in this thread, my apologies

So have they inspected the sub-frame? and can you confirm this by speaking to the company who did the work? have you called them to check ?

Yes I now have a headed paper receipt that says the sub frame has been inspected and 'all found to be in good working order'. I am collecting the car and it will be then taken to my localBMW indie for further inspection, needless to say if any problems are found I will have to then take issue.

Be very careful - it is not the subframe that goes bad, but the boot floor. Almost all say "subframe has been inspected and in good order", which is technically accurate and true, while it is actually the mounting points on the boot floor that crack. Google it!

^^^^^^^

Committed and purchased now! Having read in here all the good advise I will have the car checked over by our localBMW Indie. If we find any problems with the sub frame or boot floor I will have to have it sorted and sort out the money afterwards. Hopefully it won't come to that but this has been one of the most nervous of car purchases I have ever made, it owes me some very nice driving experiences now. I'm off to collect the car right now

I will post over the next few months or so although I won't be using the car much over winter. An unremarkable plod back home this afternoon along motorways for about 160 miles or so. Half way home and the DSC pings and light stays on, along with the runflat indicator, both yellow. Got home and had a cupp'a then switched ignition on again and lights all extinguished as they should. Checked next service due in 9750 miles which means about thirty thousand miles between services. I will do an oil and filter change before then though.
Checked my papers and dis over they have forgotten to give me my six month warranty documents.

I had a look at your car which is still on their website. Great looking car, swap stories will be interesting for us and likely the other guys in here.

Buy a cable and the CD which is widely available on eBay. A quick scan with INPA will tell you if there are any issues. If it is any consolation to you my then brand spanking new Z4MC used to throw random tyre pressure warnings, which would disappear once engine was switched off or the button was pressed for more than 10secs.

When you buy the diagnostics - try and find someone on the cutters or on the torrent sites who has Rheingold - it is the true dealer system used by BMW now, with complete repair instructions linked to the problems/fault codes. It is 50GB, hence you will not find it on a CD, but the rather cumbersome old dealer system GT1...

Hope this helps,

Alex

Cheers, I'm pleased with it so far overall.

Now you've mentioned it, I don't think I've got a document detailing the warranty either - let me know what they send you? I've emailed you through PH so you should have my details.

I had to remind them this morning to send the second key on - apparently it was over at their other premises when I picked the car up. Given the cost of replacement keys I'm not buying another one, however I am a little twitchy having only the one currently!

No disrespect intended at the dealer who has sold the car to me, he has assured me that the sub frame and boot floor areas have been inspected and are corrosion and crack free. I also have a receipt which tells me that the inspecting garage has stated all is good. However, I have booked the car in to our local BMW indie who will now inspect same and report back, I want to be 100% certain.
Also I checked with BMW main dealer regarding the air bag recall, the passenger side has been attended to but not the drivers side. Another little job booked in now, pleased I checked!

I think my letter from BMW stated it was only a problem with the passenger side. Mine was done during a service though so I'm not 100% sure.
