Those comparing an m140i and M2 just don't understand what they are talking about. They are in different leagues chassis wise. There's no arguing the opposite. I owned both and the M2 is a world apart in terms of body control. The baby M was all over the place by comparison. Then if you don't want to spend the money fine. But just don't think you are getting nearly the same car because you are not.

That's fair enough .
Can you tell us your likes and dislikes with each model ?

I have an M2, could have easily had an M4 (my dad has an M4 which i have borrowed a number of times) love them both but i know the M2 is going offer much stronger residuals ...
Did you buy the car based on residuals?

Should have put the M3/4 seats in it putting the standard M sport seats from a 320d is a swizz.

a m8 m8's (claims to be petrol head) drove it on the track and said he wasnt that impressed with it - ive also read some reviews saying it was a bit of a let down but seems otherwise after watching the GT.

hype for the show or ?

I'm in contact with five dealers and all have said they do not know their allocation for 2017, they are all speculating that they will have four or five cars and if i want to order one I will probably see it Q4 2017. However, I called one of the dealers today to ask a couple of questions and was told they have had two cancelled orders and I can have one of those cars for March 2017 if I want it, but they did say the spec has been locked in as both cars have build slots. I want a certain spec so they are going to speak to BMW to see if the spec can be changed.

So basically if you're lucky enough to be able to find a cancelled order for delivery early 2017 you'll otherwise be waiting until Q4 2017 or Q1 2018.

Sounds a bit like early E46 M3 days when new car build slots were very scarce...but if you rang around you could find a dealer with a cancelled order.

I phoned a dealer last Wednesday, put my spec in Thursday and paid a deposit, Friday the build slot was locked down by BMW and the M2 goes into build in 2 weeks time, delivery first week in January. So it is possible to find build slots.

I've just paid a deposit for an M2 for delivery in March, this was also a cancelled order. I was also able to spec the car to how I wanted it.

That's more like it. Around £6k depreciation for 2k miles of driving.

Where will these be next year? Mid to high thirties?

Isn't £42,995 just under list price for a basic manual car. Unless you know the exact spec of this car how is that £6K depreciation? More like £1-£2K depreciation.

Perhaps it is a basic spec car? If so, it is only £2k under list.
Perhaps not? Every individual seller has their own circumstances/reason for pricing their vehicle to sell.
This does not constitute a softening of values in my opinion, until this is reflected broadly across the market.

Exactly, the seller may need to get out of the car quickly for reasons only known to them.

Some people are obsessed about the prices of M2's. I'm buying one to enjoy the car not to think, oh my god I've lost a few grand on it.

There are too many people waiting to jump on the band wagon and say "I told you so, look M2 prices have dropped!". Most of these may never even own an M2 either.
