Nice vid of Harris comparing his 1M (which he is clearly besotted with) to the M2, worth a watch...

Chris Harris Drives: BMW M2 vs BMW 1M Coupe

I have an M2 but I have to admit that the 1M is special and I want one of those as well but I have no where to put it.

CH really is a one trick pony....slide slide slide. Such a yawn fest.
Can he not do one video that isn't him showing off his drift skills.
I dunno, maybe try and describe what the ownership experience would be like for a normal owner?

I really like Chris Harris' videos - He's clearly a very talented driver and I like his informative presentation style that caters to enthusiasts and doesn't 'dumb down' the content.

But I completely agree with your comments above. You can't drive like that on the road. You can't drive like that on a trackday. You can only drive like that if you hired a racetrack for exclusive use.

Don't get me wrong - if I had an empty circuit to myself I'd be trying to go around it as sideways as possible too - but I'll never have that so knowing how well a car drives perpendicular to the direction of travel with it's wheels on fire is, whilst entertaining to watch, utterly fking useless as a 'review'.

I think you can slide quite a lot on wet roads ;-).

Yeah - of course you can turn the traction off and generate a bit of a slip angle on a greasy road - and that's all very good fun, I went out today expressly to do that round the roundabouts of Milton Keynes.

But if you are fully crossed up on the lockstops with smoking tyres on the road you're going to have a massive accident or get banned and on a trackday you'll just get flagged.

Ergo these video's concentrate on the type of driving only journalists on empty circuits can indulge in.

I quite enjoyed the video - I'd pick the 1M in that colour too. The snappiness of the 1M came over quite well I thought. Even though there is a lot of sideways shenanigans I still preferred it to a lot of the other vids I've watched on the 2 cars featuring presenter to camera on normal road mileage. I guess there's only limited ways he can 'get over' the feistiness of those type of cars too without taking to a track

I like Monkey, but like all journos, he talks crap at times to sell videos. The 1M has massively better steering than the M2, but why did it take him a back to back drive to come to that conclusion? Surely every time he drives a new car, he should be able to comment on the steering a) in isolation and b) without needing a back to back reminder.

His 911RS videos are also contradictory. The newest one never understeers. Until the next gen arrives.

Still like him and his videos though.

Because that would be a really boring video to watch. I don't think the point of the video is to truly compare the two cars side by side, its a bit of entertainment whilst having a coffee and I really enjoyed it.

it did indeed - I used to see a white one most mornings in the summer with some type of aftermarket exhaust - fantastic sound through the gears

Agree and its just a little escapism for ten minutes and I thoroughly enjoyed it, I still struggle with the 1M looks though...although I do really like its flared rear arches.

Wouldn't say no to either cars to have some fun in.

I get the entertainment value (although the format is getting really old)...but every CH video is the same: basically watch how great I am at drifting. As a car review its a total waste of pixels.
If I was in the market for an new car, his videos are not going to help me at all...seems like a missed opportunity to stow his ego for 5 minutes and mix in some info on what it would be like to own an M2.
But hey maybe its just me.

I have no idea where my last post went so I'll try again.

His assessment of the 1M is spot on. and I enjoyed the video.

I just wish he hadn't shown that Akra because this was on the wife's radar a while back and she had forgotten all about it until now.

Anyway the burning beast......

Just the back bit with the wireless is around £3.5k last time I looked.

Getting it fitted properly around my neck of the woods is also an issue.

Would be nice but other priorities right now.

Enjoyed it too and I agree on the steering comments, I remember when he tested the latest m3 and remarked that the steering was good as (or words to that effect) as the previous hydraulic system.

I wasn't sure about the exhaust note on the 1m, certainly not amazing when you compare that with an Akra system on an e92 m3 for example.

I like the 1m but I've never quite understood the hype around it and this video didn't do much to change my opinion, of those I prefer the M2, looks great on the move.

The M2 has the 1M beaten on power and noise. But that's it. The 1 is a much better drivers' car. A lot of fun.

One thing thats certain guys the 1m is an icon and i guarantee the m2 will become one also, they will initially dip in value over next 2 years to around 30k ish and there slowly rise mark my words.

I don't think either the 1m or m2 are ever going to be called iconic...but low production numbers nay help the long term values.
