Thanks for the replies.
I didn't but the e46 M3 Cab - auction was ended early.
I'm getting the Imola one off my friend (his wife's car)
Its got carbon leather dash,Black leather elec memory seats, heated seats, PDC and CD prep (lol)
No Nav or bluetooth though.
2006 model. 64k with FBMWSH, 2 prev owners, new conti tyres, new front discs and pads and looks absolutely like new.
Now then...as a friend of his; price has been muted and he's going to come back to me. What would you say is the 'going rate'? Don't want to steal it but don't want to pay OTT either.

Your friends car sounds good, personally i really like the Imola red on both M3 and Z4M coupe and Roadster, they are much rarer than black, silver, grey, the other colour i really like on these is interlagos Blue.
On Money for your friends car - i would say £14500 ish its had new front brakes, and sounds like its been well kept with decent tyres and full history, worth checking when it had its Inspection services. These are pricy at main dealers... Inspection 1 & II £698 and £866 (Insp II was £1315 - 4 weeks ago so looks like bmw just reduced rates) oil service is still £199...however all services would cost much less at an Indy.
Pop your friends Registration and mileage on the link below and see what fixed prices are currently, they are for whatever reason more for my M3 at the moment than the Z4M.

Just for comparison, i recently 4-6 weeks ago, helped a mate source one of these, and he paid £16251 for his, 2007, 44K miles, full history (more services than were actually needed) 11 services over 9 years, his doesn't have NAV and it really is not a deal breaker, you'd be better off with heated seats, PDC and cruise in my opinion.
The other thing is so few are for sale (18 on Autotrader) of which only 2 are Red...so its hard be so picky over specs, there are really not many with less than 60K on these days (9 currently advertised on Trader)
For what its worth i cant see prices dropping very much, only the really high miles cars get close to £10K with the best nudging £20K at main dealers with 1 year warranty and lowest miles.
Wish you well in your purchase. Enjoy.

Wow thats heavy....V10 M5? or newer twin turbo V8?
I remember before they were actually not too bad, had an oil change done for under £200 before I went down the indy route. And brake discs/pads all round were around £1300, now it's £2100

Still you have a 500+ HP V10.....and not many can say that, and they wont ever make another n/a - V10 or - V8 for that matter!
But i agree M parts are going up in cost a lot, and £2K for factory spec discs/pads is just crazy, presume thats fitted and this is part the issue, BMW main dealer labour rates (at least up North for us) are £128+vat so guessing even more the further south you head. I like you no longer use main dealers, we have a very nice local Indy who charges £65 an hour (Inc Vat)

Mine is a daily and just under 15k miles in the past 2 years. Good fun on smoother roads but doesn't have enough suspension travel for true B road blasting. With the roof down sounds great and looks better with age.
Have been contemplating getting something to replace it but a Boxster GTS just seems a little grown up and can't think of much else that offers the same small car + big engine thrills.

This is the problem many people have! There's normally a huge trade-off of fun vs. practicality. I could probably have more fun in an Elise 111R - but I'd have to leave my wife to have fun with someone else as there's no way she'd go on road trips with me in one. I have a lot of fun in the Tuscan, but you can't park it safely on the street, or use it in the winter due to rust issues.Have been contemplating getting something to replace it but a Boxster GTS just seems a little grown up and can't think of much else that offers the same small car + big engine thrills.
The Z4M is raw, powerful, exciting, reliable, safe, comfortable (well, has heated seats!), and usable. It gives you so much as a driver, but you can also use it all year round, for wife-friendly road trips, and park it anywhere without worrying too much. You need to start spending £40k+ to find something that's a better all rounder, and even then I'm not sure what I'd suggest. 911 C2S maybe?
Ive just looked up some replacement steering wheel spoke covers, the rubber coated ones that peel. They should be about £130-175 depending on source but these folk have then up for less than 14 quid!

My E46 M3 is £230 oil, £715 Insp 1 and £928 for Insp 2
This is the reason i no longer use main dealers.
Andy
One wanted £530 for the Inspection and judging by his lack of shims when I went up to get some I doubt he takes the cover off to check them.
Another admitted that he has only ever had to change 1 in the hundreds of cars he has seen ; I know when I did mine, three were "just" out of spec, and a couple of other specialists have noted that they are a bit more frequent than never.
But yes, you can get reasonable prices.
Redish will do an Inspection II for just under £700.
