As a complete newbi I am puzzled as to what the lights tell me on my dash panel. I have looked through the handbook but unable to find reference to them.
On the rev counter dial situated at approx' 8/9 thousand revs two round red lights and one orange round light immeadiately above. I understand that orange lights dip out as the engine warms but not what these others on all the time tell me?

My newly acquired E46 M3. Trials and tribulations of the purchase and the good advise offered on on a separate thread.

Presumably you mean these, although they are definitely not round

They are just the rev warning lights, they stay on all the time while the other orange lights go out. Only take the revs into the orange section briefly, never into the red.

^^^^^^

Thank you, all makes sense now if a little embarrassing. I would rather ask and know then assume and get it wrong.

If I were you, I'd use the oil temperature guage for warming up purposes.
