The time has come to replace the rear tyres on my F10 M5. Currently running Pirellis and don't rate them.

What are people running and any recommendations?

My first M5 was on Pilot SS which were brilliant. My new one is on Pirellis which are no where near as good but I believe MPSS are hard to get at the moment.

The new MPS4-S will be out soon if you can wait, it's the replacement for the MPSS. Not to be confused with the currently available MPS4 (which replaced the PS3)

Or some MPSS if you cant wait if you can get hold of them, TBH I didn't rate them hugely, incredibly good wear rate and good grip in the dry but I wasn't impressed in the wet however that might have something to do with the monster V8 up front.

I've run both Pirelli and MPSS on mine. The MPSS is a better tyre in the dry by miles, the Pirelli is better in the wet. I've just swapped to winter wheels and tyres and these work very well in the cold\wet weather. So I will keep MPSS for Summer, and the winters for the rest of the year.

As above, the PS4-S is due out in January, worth the wait unless your current tyres are illegal, maybe worth getting winters to tide you over and use in future years.

I am running Alpin PA4 and they are night and day better than MPSS in current conditions

I have the MPSS on the M5 and the Cayman R. I did a track day at Hethel in torrential rain in the Cayman and thought the tyres were incredible, but have to agree they perform very differently on the M5 in the wet, not bad but with no weight over them (and a few more horses!) they don't inspire the same level of confidence.

I have just changed rears to MPSS from Pirellis and imho they seem to have better traction in the wet and overall better handling.

They were on 6 month back order in the UK, but delivered by Tyre Leader from Germany to my preferred fitter (Sparks Tyres, Wimbledon - Jamie handles alloys with ultimate TLC !) within the week and at a massive discount.

Just replaced my MPSS with the same. Great tyre.
Try Camskill tyres they always seem to have stock of both 19 & 20 inch tyres. Should be less than £1000 for the 4 delivered.

Mine is currently on Mich PSSs but I think I'll go for the new Continental Sport contact 6's next.

Great reviews (won the recent evo review) and about 2/3 the price of the the PSS's!

I've run Conti SC5s on E63 AMG and they were brilliant.

From what I understand the PS4 is meant to be nothing like the PS3 and meant to be close to the PSS in construction and design.

But yes, the MPS4-S will be the MPSS "true" replacement.

Decided to hang on for the Pilot Sport 4s to be available. Has anyone been able to get hold of these tyres at a sensible price for their M5 as i'm struggling to get a pair for under £625?

Wembley Tyres have always been good for me on MPSS for my M3, although they're smaller than the M5 obviously.

Managed to get a pair of MPS4S locally in Doncaster for £275 each. Immediate thoughts are they are head and shoulders above the P Zeros that were replaced, although that may not be a totally fair comparison as they only had 2mm of tread left smile

Just replaced all 4 Pirellis on my M5 with MPSSs. Makes a massive difference. I have always preferred to run Michelins on my cars. My M5 was new when I bought it in 2015 and it came with Pirellis (note to self to check this before purchase next time....). 265/35R20 front, 295/30R20 rear.

Just go to www.blackcircles.com - Rear 295/30 R20 Y (101) XL BMW spec Michelin PSS tyres @ £271.59 fitted, pick your local dealer and away you go ... hard to find places that'll beat their prices as they buy in massive bulk.

btw agree with other comments -- MPSS are a million times better than Pirelli PZeros which came on my car as standard (BMW told me it was their backup option when they couldn't get Michelin).

I dumped my rear Pirellis for MPSS after 10k miles and still 5-6mm tread left and it was like night and day - PZeros were just too hard when cold leading to awful traction and scary moments at junctions and roundabouts - a 1.6 diesel van could probably out drag me to 20mph in the wet!
