Saw one of these on the road today and I must say, they are stunning little cars!
How rare are these things?!i must've only seen a handful, ever and a few together at a car show in Tatton Park last summer.
What do you guys think will happen to the value of these cars? Just literally 2 years ago these were quite a bit cheaper. It now looks like a good one will cost around £20k and a low mileage immaculate car near twice that?!
I'm considering buying one to enjoy on the weekends. I know the z4m will be a tighter, more refined car as it is newer but do seem to catch sight of the odd one a lot more often.

Thoughts...?

I dont think you'll go far wrong with a Z3MC or a Z3MRoadster, and of course even the Z4M as there are very few cars around for sale of each right now. I would imagine many owners now starting to hold onto them as they become more collectable and desirable.

I personally think any N/A M car with a Manual 'box will be a reasonable future investment, but wouldn't advise getting one for this sole reason, as they do cost a fair bit to maintain correctly. I would go in with your eyes open.

Dont rule out a Z3MR as they are a little cheaper a mint one can be had for £20-24K with low miles.

I owned a 2000 EU spec Z3M Coupe. Whilst I loved it to look at, I was a bit underwhelmed by the drive. Somehow I thought it would be more sophisticated and quicker then it was. In the end I used to polish it, park it and look at it but had no real desire to drive it. Having seen the values rise I decided to cash in and sold it pretty quickly.

The S50 ZMC are quite rare with only 821 RHD cars and just over 600 now registered/sorn.. commonly known as the "Clowns shoe" or the "Breadvan" very quirky and lots of fun and definitely increasing in value now...

I have a low mile one tucked away in my small collection...

Ironically enough the Z4M Coupe is quite a bit rarer than the Z3M Coupe. It's just that the UK also received non-M Z4 Coupes, which are the ones you've likely seen.

588 Z4MCs made it to the UK, vs. 821 S50 and 165 S54 Z3MCs.

Very few people seem to realise how rare the former is. Keeps it nice and cheap for insurance purposes though! wink

I've owned both and the Z4MC is in a different league in terms of usability, and still feels special. The Z3MC always felt agricultural to me, but it was certainly fun. In a year in my Z4MC I've done 7.4k miles vs. 4K over 2 years in my Z3MC...that says a lot to me.

Own a 1998 Z3M coupe for nine years now and can't part with it. It's such a nice machine to drive once the chassis has been improved as factory one isn't stiff enough to handle the power, especially on tight twisty roads.
The steering and shifting can be a bit harsh for a daily use for city driving but it's not its favourite playground.

I owned a z4mc a couple of years back after buying from a good friend when he moved away. Again, lovely looking car, great engine and an event to drive. I however did not like the gearbox, seats and feel of the steering in my hands.
Having driven a z3mc I can agree that the 4 is a better all round car but you would expect it to be.
For me though, the z3mc is one of the best looking modern BMWs. As far as styling/look goes, the z3mc wins easily.
I prefer the seats, the old school feel of the gearbox.

Would be good to have a price thread for the cars based on the past 2 years. Looks as though £20k for an average/usable example in decent condition is going to be the norm real soon.
The car looks different to anything else, has a great engine, good classic car performance-it's probably a good time to buy before prices hit rediculous.

Anybody have pictures of theirs? Haven't seen much variance in the wheel choices for some reason. Most tend to keep to the standard factory set..

£20k for a good one?

You can't get a rubbish one for that!

It has to be the Z3M Coupe for me. Prices have practically doubled over the last 3 years.

Here's mine:

Those are real beauties guys! I'm a big fan of red but have always loved the estoril too! One of those cars which I think looks good in any colour!

How many z3m couples are there in the uk? Roughly.
I know these didn't make many of them in the first place..

Been a while since I was on here last. Have not yet been out to see one but planning on taking some time next month.
There really aren't many around the £20k mark. Would I be right in assuming that if I did around £20k I would need to tinker a bit spend a bit more to get it to where I'd want to be?
Now I wouldn't be expecting a brand new motor for that kind of money. I understand a low mileage, LOW owner car with full dealer history in immaculate/show condition would probably set me back more than double that.
The more I think about it the more it becomes a no brainier really. It doesn't seem like the prices of these cars are slowing down and before long a shed needing £6-7k worth of work will probably cost £20Gs!
Difficult to gauge as adverts/pictures can only go as far so i bet the cars that haven't sold for months aren't as nice as described!

A few for sale at the moment, might be a good time to buy if your still considering it. Prices are still strong though

I bought one recently. Nice honest example but about to undergo a major refresh. Given time/age, I took the view that the low milers commanding mega money are not of interest, as many cars need £££ spending just due to time, regardless of miles.

Full thread to follow!

I sadly missed the boat on these, a mate had one, (black on all black interiour) that he offered me for £15000 3 years ago, didn't have the money to spend on one at that point in time. His traded his and a Boxster for a 5000 mile SL55 AMG a year ago, and the company later sold his Z3MC for £39000...

Pic of the little thing:

Got my self an e39 M5 instead.

The cars in the thread all look good but the Dakar and the Imola ones stand out in particular, very nice.
