Nothing pees me off more with Auto trader than when I search for a manual car and it throws the bloody two pedal cars in as well, it does it with the M5 too.

A manual gearbox has three pedals...a two pedal car is for the old and people not very interested in actually driving. mad
And this is what I love about this forum. I forgot that I was surrounded by Nico Rosbergs and anyone on here with a "two pedalled" car should be on Mumsnet and nowhere near a car.

There was me thinking it was ignorance for a second.

I best grab my coat...

I said the last bit tongue in cheek...Regards searching on the trader that does annoy me when I'm looking for a manual car and it throws in the two pedal ones though.

Would this pee you off then? Two pedals, but manual 'stick shift' as they say in the US.

I'd still miss using the clutch pedal to be fair, I didn't realise they did cars like that though so cheers for sharing.

For the purpose of the thread, its a shame UK were not offered the CSL in a manual though, which i think US were?

Its an interesting debate.

Andy
Indeed it is an interesting debate.

I reckon the manual CSL is something Steve Sutcliffe made up. The E60 M5, yes was offered with a manual box but to my knowledge the CSL was SMG only.

PS. You can still rev match like a manual in the SMG. Yes you do lack a pedal but it can be done ; I do it quite a bit. The CSL software however will remove that.

I will admit there was one reason why I was recently converted to the way of thinking was after a DN day in a Clio 220EDC. It did prove that we sucked as drivers.

All CSL's made were SMG only.

No CSL's were supplied to the US.

The opposite of that is a much better bet as per the Ariel Atom (not sure which version). i.e. you get a clutch and have to use it when pulling away or stopping, but can use the paddles the rest of the time. That means that you can be as aggressive as you like with the clutch take up on pulling away or even do a clutch dip to get the rears spinning whilst you're moving, but you've also got the paddle-change racing car experience too.

I'd say if you've got time to press the clutch pedal. Select a gear and release the clutch pedal you are driving too slow smile .

The traditional manual in the E46 M3 feels like stirring a bucket full of treacle and rusty bolts with a wooden spoon. And the clutch is awful too. All in my personal opinion of course.

I agree with you and I didn't rate the manual gearbox in either my Z4M or E92 M3, BMW make st manual gearboxes as a rule sadly.

Both BMW's I have at the moment are auto's which speaks volumes really!

I still prefer a good manual to an auto though in all fairness.
