Considering getting an M4 as a daily. It will be purely for this won't be a toy as I have a California and an RRS that my wife will drive.

Also had RRS as a daily but half fancy something which is a bit more fun but I will be putting 15k miles on a year.

I've owned many M's and loved them but the reviews on the M4 aren't great and the original test drive I had in an M4 when they first came out didn't blow me away.

What discounts can you aim for on new?

I've literally just done this. Had a 718 Cayman S since November and I put nearly 4K miles on it in two months. So I took the opportunity to step out the Cayman at a time where it was still worth what I owed. Took delivery of a pre-reg M4 Competition Pack last Friday. £54k for a car that was £64k list. Plus they threw in a service pack. Quite a lot out there.

Car seems really nice so far. I test drove a base M4 before the 718 CS and didn't think much but the Competition Pack makes it feel quite different. Also the standard tech of the M4 is quite novel coming from a Porsche. So far so good.

Reviewers are fickle bunch I've had 5 M cars and my f80 is as good as any of them I do 30k a year in it it's fine for daily, get the CP if you want as the reviewers like that one.

Had one since July and it has been a brilliant daily.
Its never been boring, has not missed a beat and I still enjoy it every time I get a chance to open it up.

Not owned or driven one but a good friend owns one.

His is superb! TBH I'd consider having one if my monetary priorities didn't lie elsewhere!

I'd make sure to have a decent drive in a competition pack car before choosing it over the std car...its quite a firm ride even in comfort setting. Doesn't worry me as mine is a leisure car but it could get tiresome as a DD.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think i am going to test drive a standard M4 and one with the new pack.

Are there any discounts to be had on a new M4 or are those days gone with the exchange rate collapse?

I've used my M4 as a daily for about 2years. No problems at all after 20k miles.
Comfy and relaxing when you have it in comfort and the gearbox in slow auto mode. With the benefit of it transforming into a savage beast at the press of the button. Best of both worlds.
Big boot too.

Few about especially pre reg. I note most have xenon rather than LED so if you are happy with that there is some choice on AUC. Beware of the white ones at Williams though, they will be ex Palmersport cars. Very cheap and should have had a very decent service and prep but might be stigmatised a little.

Posters on m3cutters talk about 15% deals but in my experience I could get about 8.5% from a broker/carwow but that's it. A lot of the pre regs are already keenly priced. You may be luckier than me.

Excellent daily driver, absolutely love mine, although I did spec it with the correct amount of doors (M3 biggrin)

Now had it 12 months since new and I'm not getting itchy feet, which says a lot.

I just bought one (With competition pack), pick it up as a 17 plate on March 1st, think it was £66k reduced to £62k, but then Aberdeen dealers can be notoriously stingy.

I didn't think it too firm on the test drive, but then all my cars have had firm suspension, so probably used to it.

I have an M4 CP as my daily and will likely do 20k+ pa in it.

Have done 11k in 6 months and it's been an absolute joy.

It is a stiff car but you only really notice it on poor surfaces. It's very comfortable on smooth tarmac and decent roads.
