Many thanks to all for your comments, the above sums it up for me and is probably where I am, with the exception that my M3 does sit in the garage all week, as I have another daily, so when I do drive it it does seem special, but honestly 16mpg - 18mpg with only the occassional blast is becoming punative.

So would the 235i replace both the M3 and the daily? Or would the 235i just become the garage queen in place of the M3? If the latter, it's really not special enough IMHO. If the former, then I can see why you might be tempted.

But I'm pretty sure you'll miss the character of the M3 before too long.

For a daily driver then they are great but they are really not a weekend only car. I'm actually looking at swapping mine for an M2 but I think I'm going to keep it another year because 50K seems crazy money when the M235i is so cheap to run.

Its a great car without a doubt, but this is one of its annoying traits, that and the fact that the drivers seat won't go low enough combined with the double pivot of the clutch pedal.

The pre LCI models seats don't adjust low enough but that was changed with the 2010 LCI models and adjust a lot better. I am 6,2 and it's low enough for me
