All quite relative - what if you did get the max discount and finance contributions (both available on cash deals even if you have to borrow £10k for 1 month at next to no cost) ? You end up paying £48k for one and probably sell it for £32k trade (or more privately). I call that superb % residual. As for £ residuals, it depends what you're comfortable with. For many people, £450/month doesn't ever register...and they get to drive a M4.
Hmmm, you must have money to burn. I don’t think Ive ever lost close to that much money on a car, in 20 years of motoring, and that includes new cars. Losing £16k in 2-3 years on a car is A LOT of money, plus the cost of the interest over that period. If you buy cars wisely, you don’t have to lose much at all. Just depends on your view on the value of money. Edited by nickfrog on Tuesday 21st February 20:38
The E92 M3 is good, has the right toys that you need too - great audio, good sat nav, bluetooth audio and phone etc for an older car. As the new M3/M4s creep towards £30k you'll start to see more depreciation on the E92 though. There are plenty of them about and the reason they have held up well price wise is the M4 is still £40k+
At £40kish I would also look at the M2 or 1M if you want to minimise depreciation.
At £30k you have to drive the F10 M5 too, I know it is massively different coming from the Boxster but it's an absolute monster of a car.

is the V8 another reason that the E92 values have held up well, what would you rather have a late E92 competition pack car with low mileage for 30k or an early M4 for 40k?
i am selling my E92 for quite another reason but i test drove the M4 and it left me disappointed and in no way tempted to switch a couple of years ago

Absolutely. IMHO yes. More spectacular, high revving (8.5k revs) engine, more feelsome hydraulic steering, and a slightly more compact body. The car is also a lot more striking than the boggo e92 coupe, whereas it's harder to distinguish an M4 from a 4 series with M-Performance styling, again IMHO. There were very few high revving V8s EVER produced in ANY car, which make the M3 that bit more special, and its ilk is unlikely to be seen again, for us mere mortals at least (Shelby GT350 excepted).I've gone from a 981 Spyder to an M2 - like you, I just fancied a change. The M2 is great - clearly not as good as the Spyder in extremis, but it has other charms that appeal a great deal, not least in terms of practicality and creature comforts! It's more similar in size to the Spyder, compared to the M4, another plus point IMO. Oh, it looks great, too!

Very interesting That you have also gone from a 981 Spyder. I'am looking at whether its worth stretching the budget to a 991.1. I am a Porsche man I suppose but the M3 Coupe with competition pack seems very good value. Glad you are enjoying the M2Gassing Station | M Power | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
