M5 ready for disc and pads.
Main dealer or after market and get fitted by an indy?

Personally I'm lazy and will pay inflated main dealer prices because I spend half my life in the car and prefer to just drop it in a main dealer near wherever I'm working, but when it comes to discs and pads expect to get absolutely shafted, you can save a lot by buying the parts independently. To give you some idea I just paid £479 just to have the rear pads alone changed by a main dealer - ridiculous but they were doing other work on the car at the same time and I'd be damned if I had to find the time to take the car somewhere else on another day. Maybe if I were having discs and pads done front and rear all at once, I'd be more inclined to make the saving.

To the credit of the dealer mentioned above, they did actually measure all discs and tell me nothing needed changing any time soon, despite being the factory discs after 50k miles. They could easily have pulled a sale on me.

Spent a lot of time looking at this myself but it's another vote for main dealer I'm afraid. There aren't many aftermarket options without major changes.

It's worth using the part prices from eBay (where some BMW dealers sell genuine parts) and using that to negotiate the part costs with the dealer. Think I saved myself about £100 when I had my rears done this way.

Or, if you're happy fitting yourself, buy the genuine parts from eBay.

I'm the opposite, i'll always go Indy for consumables whether in or out of warranty.

Aftermarket pads are about 1/3rd of the cast from say ECP & an Indy will charge half the labour rate so the savings are significant.

Had my front discs replaced last year & got the discs for £900 & fitting in total was just under £100. Dealer wanted close to £1500 & on top of that tried to convince me the pads HAD to be changed all round when any discs are changed, even though they'd only covered about 1000 miles on the back & 4000 miles on the front so total cost from the dealer was £2k.

Upgraded my pads to Pagid RS29's which on the F10 m5 are just supered & inspire so much braking confidence on the road & track.

Quality aftermarket parts all day long

Used ECP discs and pads (premium items of course ) for both my r8, m3 and 640dGC and all have been absolutely spot on and about half the price quoted by dealers

Makes no sense to use dealers unless you value convenience over the saving which is fair play if you don't have the time

But for me cars Cost a fortune to run as it is and every saving helps !
