Garage/Wheel Fitter Herts/Beds/Bucks-Recommendations?
Discussion
Hi,
I have a refurbed and gloss black set of alloys to fit to my 2004 e63/645ci. The person I got them from has sold them to me on the basis they are the right size for my car - in this case 19", front 8.5j & rear 9j's.
My local garage (not BMW, not an indy) can't find the size markings (as the alloys have been resprayed). They have measured the wheels and suggest the wheels are 9.5 (front) and 10 (back), therefore too big.
I have asked them to look at the spokes closely to see if they can find the original markings under the gloss. The chap I bought the wheels off has said the markings are on the wheels and they are 100% the right size (8.5 and 9).
Even if the garage can confirm the wheels are the size I have told them, and not what they have measured them as, I'm feeling nervous now about them putting the new wheels on - clearly they are not familiar with this specific job.
So, I wondered if anyone has a recommendation for a garage in the Tring or Berkhamsted area. Further afield is Leighton Buzzard, Hemel Hempstead so I'm willing to travel to go to a recommended garage/wheel fitter that is familiar with changing wheels and even better, with BMW cars/wheels.
Thanks,
Claire

I'd speak to Carlos at http://www.csautomotive.co.uk/ 01494 771084 in Ley Hill, outside Bovingdon
Fitting, I would recommend Discount Tyres & Exhausts. 329 London Rd, Hemel Hempstead, Herts HP3 9AL. Tel 01442 251600. I have used for years and never messed anything up. Clive is your man.
Up the road is BVJ Engineering in Flaunden 01442 834169 who refinish and re-true alloy wheels. Have done a set for me. They'd probably fit tyres, but not really their job. And not while you wait.

They're a Black Circles garage and used them about 3 or 4 times now, might be worth a call to see if they're willing to size up the wheels.

Thanks for the bodyshop recommendations Gents. Have a Mk V GTi that needs a bit of TLC....Mrs Cheib's former transport when we lived in London so needs a bit of bodywork! As per the OP's question BVJ have refurbed the wheels on the Gti recently and did an excellent job!

Different places measure width differently... it's just one of those things... If they are OEM style wheels have a look online at the BMW wheel style website, and if they are BBS's they are sometimes written on the front (LM's etc.)I have a refurbed and gloss black set of alloys to fit to my 2004 e63/645ci. Would recommend BJV in Flaunden, very knowledgeable, helpful and well priced.
