M140i - M performance exhaust
Discussion
Hi,
I think I'm going to order a M140i.
I had a 13-plate M135i, so I know the car. I'd just like a bit more noise, but not so much that the car's "boy racered up". Presumably if order a M performance exhaust, it's dealer fit when the car arrives?
Has anybody got one? Is it louder but not daft or droney? Any idea what I should expect to pay for it?
Thanks in anticip,
Tim

Chrome tipped one is £725 from cotswold BMW (see http://babybmw.net/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=96950 ). Carbon tips will be more.
Yes its a dealer fit item. The exhaust on the car doesn't have a flange, so it is cut to remove the old box and a clamp used to join the MPE on. I would make sure they give you the original box, because when you come to sell/dispose of the car you can put the stock one on and sell the MPE separately.
From what I understand it won't drone but I do think they are quite loud, especially at startup.

From what i hear the mpe doesn't add much volume at all compared to sport mode. If your interested in more sound from exhaust maybe look at an AC Schnitzer exhaust which I believe will still keep the warranty or look into coding more artificial noise from the car.
Or if course do what you want its your car!
They really are cracking things only disappointment for me is the HK stereo, admittedly i have the convertible but its a £600 system which makes the stereo almost as good as it should of been in the first place. Seriously the one in my elise is almost as good.

ACS stuff is mega expensive though. Akrapovic make a system too, you need a mortgage for that one!
The M140i has a bigger mid silencer than the M135i which means its quieter, a bit too quiet.
BCS sell a mid pipe that only has a small silencer - makes a big difference, only about half the price of the MPE.
Also note: the MPE for the M140i does away with the flap in the exhaust (M135i MPE retained this).
They aren't any cheaper (maybe a bit more ?) but remus do both a mid section and a rear silencer that retains the exhaust flap.

Apologies for the thread bump, but when you say the Remus rear silencer maintains a flap, what does that actually mean? Does that provide some variance in noise between comfort and sport mode? The M140i has a bigger mid silencer than the M135i which means its quieter, a bit too quiet.

I think my m240i could do with a bit more noise, but don't want to go OTT. I think the options are the MPE, or Remus back box only, or Remus CBE with smaller centre silencer. I prefer the slash tailpipe option on the Remus to the MPE which seem to stick out a lot.
