So just pulled the trigger on a new M2. Am I mad?!

Chopping out of an immaculate but 10year old 911 C4S. Hope I've done the right thing!
Sure I'll take a big depreciation hit but yolo!!!
Is there any way you can keep the 911? Had a 996 Turbo and loved the car. My only problem with it and it was a big problem was it had a lot of problems. I have to believe it was not representative of the 911 line and I came upon other 996 Turbo owners who had covered hundreds of thousands of miles and had not had any problem. I put 150K miles on the Turbo and finally had had enough.Sure I'll take a big depreciation hit but yolo!!!
My first Porsche was a 2002 Boxster and it was pretty darn reliable and trouble free. Drove it to 317K miles. And my experience with the Boxster was one reason why I bought the 2003 996 Turbo (used but with <10K miles and in pristine condition and with a 2 year/100K mile CPO warranty.)
At any rate I have had a 2023 M2 ZB 6-speed with carbon fiber roof now since April 14 this year. Have just over 6K miles on it. Wonderful car. In the top 3 cars I've owned and it could be #1. Will be #1 if it remains problem free.
Not driving it much now though because of winter. No snow (yet) but cold and M2 has high performance tires. I have a 2024 BMW 230i xDrive (with all season tires) to use in the cold and if unavoidable in bad weather.

First time seeing one in that colour, I really like it and nice looking wheels on it too.Kerniki said:

You shot a car? Why?
I agree - may be in common usage (at least on PH) but 'pulled the trigger' is still, to my mind, a silly expression. What's wrong with 'buying'?But for it to wind you up is far more an indication that you have some serious issues in your life, its actually good that you’ve noticed but its now up to you to use that indicator to address whatever the underlying issues is.
Or, you can laugh at that advice and carry on thinking that someones saying on the internet is an important issue, your choice

and such an innocuous expression.

More importantly, ask yourself why something so meaningless winds you up, its just a saying that people use or maybe over use but its really unimportant.

Well, if he’s a five year old you really told him. But for it to wind you up is far more an indication that you have some serious issues in your life, its actually good that you’ve noticed but its now up to you to use that indicator to address whatever the underlying issues is.

As the author of the original post it was a little surprising that some people feel the need to comment on my use of language and not the underlying post.
In my professional life I’m quite the stickler for the appropriate use of language/grammar but a little more relaxed on social media, texts etc.
I don’t recall walking into the Porsche specialist and asking to ‘chop in’ my 911 nor telling the Sales Executive at BMW that I’m ready to ‘pull the trigger’ on the M2 but I suspect you know that.
The ‘clever remarks/responses’ are more symptomatic of the times we live in I suppose where keyboard warriors feel empowered to give you the benefit of their wisdom. I suspect they’d be a little more respectful & polite face to face. If my comments bother you then feel free to ignore my post and move on without comment.
Thank you for all the positive comments and genuine replies. I’m enjoying the car but it does seem very thirsty and with quite a small tank. Apart from that very pleased so far.
Happy New Year.

I’ve really struggled with the new M2 as a potential replacement for my M2C but think I’ve finally come to the conclusion that it was the colour range avaialable at launch that was the problem - the Brooklyn Grey didn’t do the rear end too many favours, the Zandvoort Blue - just no (sorry CRA1G!!) and the Tornado Red just seemed too orangey when I saw it at Goodwood. Black was OK but I’ve had black cars before and wouldn’t want to go there again. But this hits the mark for me - looks lovely and I think I even like the bum in Portimao. Hmmm….

I totally get what you’re saying but it’s growing on me, slowly but surely. I think it’s fair to say that it is a very colour sensitive car.
There are so many cars that I’ve disliked at launch because of the way they look but after a while ended up liking (McLaren 720 a case in point).
