A stalker. I am flattered.

Weird in the extreme though.

Not defensive at all, just rational about the car.

At least we now know looks are subjective, there is hope.
Nobody has to stalk you on here to see that you post in EVERY M2 thread biggrin

come one, be honest, do you work for BMW? You really don't take criticism of the car well at all.

I have to love how a car looks, and whilst i dont find it as hideous as i did when it came out, its still a no from me.

Not sure where i'd go after my F87. I like the size of it. Maybe a Cayman? Dont know....
And you're not alone. I feel exactly the same, and in my small car clubs there are at least three others who are in the same boat. One of them an F80 M3 CS owner who doesn't know where to go next and has owned every M3 to date up to F80

You're judging me by your own standards.

I have an interest in the M2 indeed, having owned and extensively tracked an OG for 3 years. I don't take subjective opinions about looks as criticism., they can't be, as by definition, those views are subjective, which even you have finally accepted.

I can't remember taking any criticism well or not well, I just engage in conversation, which is the entire point of a forum. I know exactly what those cars can do, and can't do. You may be a self confessed fanboy but I am not so don't project.

I find it extremely weird (to be polite) that you make this personal. Just talk about cars, not about me. Focus on you, not me. Agreed?

As for the "vested interest" or working for BMW, that's weird too. I don't work for anyone, retired early.

I have just ordered one myself, I have gone for black with the comfort back.

Had a test drive and I thought it was a fantastic piece of kit.

£5k down and £670pm and that is for 15k miles per annum which whilst expensive I didn't think was terrible either as I managed to get a £6k discount on the car and APR is 4.9% atm.

I plan to fit the AutoID OEM+ Stance kit which for me transforms the way the car looks. Power wise it will be left alone as it already felt plenty for the road and I want to keep the warranty...

Notwistanding my earlier comments about awkward details and a lack of clear direction on overall styling, I do thing the whole new 2 Series Coupé range looks quite good in the metal, thanks to the low, wide, muscular stance. It's a shame the range of colours is so lousy though. Apparently these can't be specced in Individual colours either.

I expect I will be liable for suspension etc. but will be amazed if BMW would decline the engine/gearbox.

Will run it past the garage regardless, being suspension if something broke I could always swap the old springs back over...

Wow monthlies have come down - in Dec 22 before the rates went up I was quoted a 4yr deal at £980/mth with £10k down for 8kmi/yr. I pulled out as decided to move house - sounds like a decent deal now tho!

Was that with any extras? I am resisting going to look at one but they are growing on me. I have a stage 2 OG and as much as I love it the G87 is getting tempting. Like you I would want to lower it and fit spacers so I would be interested to see what the dealer says. My M2 is black and its a comeplete PIA to keep clean so it would be red for me.

Hi,

That is with the plus pack only, however the standard spec on them is very comprehensive anyway with stuff you would have to pay extra for on an M4 like the carbon trim. If I had got the car on 8k miles I think it would have been more like £625/630. The car itself was discounted to £59,311.60.

I must admit, I have been tempted by the red, I have a holding deposit in place but won't pick a car until I have a start date for my new role. The only concern for me was it being a bit loud for the office car park...

Yeah, this is my viewpoint. However, officially the warranty will not cover anything

Popped into BMW Cambridge today to check out an OG 2020 M2 they had in. Unfortunately it had been sold, but I had a sit in and looked around a black new gen model they have there. Think it's their ex demonstrator in black with gold wheels.

I'm still not sold on the aesthetics, but they're definitely nicer in person. Photographs dont do it justice. The curves, stances of the track, helped by it being so wide. It's quite imposing in person which I found surprising. Absolutely huge arches that need the bigger wheels. Sat next to an M3 Touring and the wheels looked piddly in comparison, not sure if it was just the colour schemes that did it.

Was down at circa £57k I think, with the first gen 2020 model around £37k. They did have a few new gen models in stock and had about 7 on the system when he checked the dealer network. The demo was a manual (would want DCT) so no point driving it or anything but defo gonna give it some thought and maybe get a squirt out in one when I next have time.

Didnt get in to talking numbers or anything as I was only really interested in the first gen model. Was hoping to just see it, love it and grab it for cash, but seems some other lucky sod had already made the journey for it (apparently was signing paperwork out back). The finance packages on the stickers for the used cars didnt seem particular value for money, although I was hoping to buy it outright so wasn't paying much attention. Should probably consider that as the money might be better off elsewhere if they can offer a half decent finance deal on one.

If you’re thinking new M2 with DCT, you’re out of luck. It’s got the ubiquitous 8sp auto now if you don’t want stick.

That’s what punters wanted apparently; Righto.

After deliberating for a while, just bought one as my new daily - a black manual. Test drove both the auto and manual, and manual was the easy winner. Nice deal to be had at month end, 13% off list for a brand new unregistered car from stock.

Initial impressions 100 miles in and keeping to sub-4k revs for now, it feels a fantastically accomplished motor car. For sub £60k, hard to think of much competition.

Congratualtions on your new car I bet it looks great.

Going back to the First post in this thread "Just spent 20 minutes looking at the M2 , first time looking at the car properly BMW have made an awful looking M car no doubt .

Wheels look completely lost and the add on bits just make the car even less appealing.

The interior is very good but why would you buy such an awful design, looked to see how many cars are available second hand and there’s a lot don’t think dealers are going to shift these at £60k plus .

rofl looks like you called this one wrong Gary rofl

As they say, one swallow doesnt make a summer.

But of note - and i'm sure Gary will be along to reply - i dont think he was saying he expected dealers to sell no new cars at all. Not how i read it anyway.

And if you are going to be literally he did say "£60K plus", whereas this black car has been bought for sub £60K. I guess a combination of more compelling prices and people getting used to the looks is helping.

If someone can get past the challenging looks, i've no doubt they're a brilliant car, particularly if they're looking a manual.

you're quite right DT I just feel like countering the overly negative post(s) from Gary to say it seems like a lot of people do like it and a lot are parting with their cash. Sub or plus £60 K there's plenty of choice in this arena.

I woudn't put my money into one yet but as I mentioned in the 2nd post after Gary's it will grow on me over time I'm sure.

I think we should celebrate that BMW are still offering a 500 BHP petrol smallish car that's a joy to drive until the ghastly electric fad has died as it seems to be doing already.

Thankfully we all like something different and we shouldn't piss on someone's bonfire because they do.

They are growing on me, i have to say. I definitely find them less hard on the eye than i did.

Agreed that we're all different. I dont think anyone is saying that people are "wrong" for buying them or "stupid" or trying to piss on someones chips, just that the looks of the car arent to their personal taste.
