Huggy, you'll be better off with the New M3 as the world and his wife will have the Audi S5 by xmas as it's a 'new model line'. Also if you look at some of the recent new Audi's that've been launched after the BMW you'll notice how they've been copying us, Audi = charlotans smile
RS5 my friend, next year i believe, plus personally i think they have a "better" image. Oh and 4wd
If you're uncertain enough of your own image to let that influence your car choice so be it. Personally if I'm spending tens of thousands of £s the last thing I'm going to do is be influenced by what others think. 4wd? - not on this type of car thanks. All IMO of course and each to his own!
Im not uncertain of my image at all, i just dont want people who dont know me, stereotyping me just because i have a particular car.

Just what type of car is an M3 then, if you wouldnt want 4wd on it?
2wd!! roflrofl

And why let what others - who don't even know you - influence your buying decisions. Mad.

I really need to go for a burn in the Audi to pass a professional opinion so got a bit of a wait before that'll happen.

I don't approve. The M3 should be coupe only. If you need space in an M car (like me) there is teh M5 with lots of it (and lots of power biggrin).

I kinda agree with you there Zod, being a bit of a pureist myself. However, if it's a BMW and a genuine M-powered one then it's all good all the way every day smile

I have seen shorter contradictory sentences......But not by much.

If you want one better order now as there's going to be a big wait
Much to late - already a two year wait! (Even if that will prob. come down a bit).
I know buddy I work for a dealer group. I've got customer's who placed their deposits 2.5 years ago and won't probably get their car for at least another year.
There is nothing like that kind of wait at the dealer i have used for the past 9 years. Although, now they have found out im buying an Audi, there will probably be a 2.5 year wait for any of their cars for me !!!!

Having been a BMW customer for 9 years. I have just switched to Audi and from the cars i have drive, RS4, S4, RS6 and yet to drive my S5 (ordered an RS5) , i personally think Audi are building much better looking cars, much better interiors and on the whole, better engines.

I've been seriously impressed with everything Audi so far, they have outdone BMW in every department thus far

Depends what you prefer and I suspect your probably a bit bored with the same manufacturer so might choose the Audi over the equivalent BMW. As far as looks go there all about the same IMO some points are better than others & vice versa. However it does ultimately come down to the drive and what it's like to spedn a lot of time in the drivers seat where I'd prefer to be in the BMW. You might think Audi are building better engines but the proof's in the pudding, BMW have won numerous consecutive engineering awards for their engines, Audi haven't. Also to have a good interior you have to spend that bit extra on leather instead of cloth, and you need to decide on what type of leather as well.

I never mentioned any of the cars i have owned, i just said i was a BMW customer for 9 years. Also im not on the Audi board as i have yet to take delivery of my Audi and yet to live with it. I was merely offering my own early opinions and Audi compared to BMW. I could be wrong, as of yet i have not lived with an Audi.

May i suggest you grow up a little bit, stop being jelous when there is nothing to be jelous of and get over your obvious smalll man syndrome

I think the bored of the same manufacturer thing could be very true. Im genuinly excited about changing to a totally new car from a new, to me, company. I won't know the real differences till i have had the car a year. I guess right now im going on the novelty value.

When i told the guy i have bought BMW's through in the past i was going down the Audi route, his actual words were 'not another one'. He said that Audi are taking a lot of customers from BMW right now. Audi seem to be getting their PR right and seem to be flavour of the month with the Motoring Journos'. The real proof will be how long they remain considered of so highly and can udi keep raising the bar year after year, the way BMW have done with such success.

Im also in the group that really doesn't like the way modern BMW's are styled. I think the M5 and M6 would be the only BMW varients i would buy. If i dont get on with the S5 (which i doubt) i will probably change it either for an RS4 or an M5.

We shall see. One thing is for certain BMW are not having it their own way anymore and the competition now must only be good for us customers for both brands.

Steady on! We're not talking Aston or TVR here.wink I've had the first of a number of recent BMW models and never suffered any 'teething' problems at all.

Good points. A change can be as good as a rest as they say. After a number of Porsches I found having an Aston a great - and refreshing - novelty. There comes a point when you get so familiar with a marque that your next new car from the same stable just doesn't seem 'new' enough. Now I'm looking forward to returning to BM for a while after my 997GT3.

I don't think audi need to prove their engine build quality/performance and reliability to anyone. Le mans has been testament to this for years...including this year too most probably.

As far as build quality of the interior (as well as remainder of the car), my experience is in comparing the E46 M3 with the B7 RS4. Frankly I have seen constipated turds built more solidly than my M3 (which was bought with only 2,500 miles on the clock). The bodywork/gapping/joins and interior were awful. Plastics were cheap. Leather was of rubbish quality.

The E90 M3 has a LOT of work to do even keep on par with a B7 RS4. That plus the fact that within half a year, there will be a complete flood of them everywhere (made worse by the addition of the saloon). If it really turns out to be a good car, I'd save your money and buy a low milleage used example in about half a year.
