Wow, that's quite a significant difference to the 338bhp that BMW quote. So in reality an E46 M3 has less bhp per tonne than an E36 M3!?!

Not really, as the E36 Evos consistently dyno at around 300Bhp, not the quoted 321Bhp.

On the other hand, E36 non Evos always dyno higher, closr to 295 than the quoted 286.

I thought they were quoted at 316BHP and not 321BHP?

My E36 M3 Evo Dyno'd at 313bhp when standard so I guess they don't consistently dyno at 300bhp unless I have the best of a bad bunch!!

Yeah true, I got the Bhp and PS all mixed up!

However, E36Coupe have a load of dyno plots and 300-310 is the average so it seems.

My standard E36 Evo did a E46 M3 cab off the lights to 100 by about 2 lengths! biggrin

RE: the dyno figures, are they all using Super unleaded?
i use Tesco 99, i'm sure it makes a difference over 97/98 super

Ps I know the cab is a tad heavier.

I KNOW mine would be slower.

At least until I work out how this darn SMG box works best anyway!

Unless you knew the driver of the other car and this was a planned experiment how can you be sure that they were REALLY trying/competent or even ready?
Not disputing what you say just pointing out that this is hardly a scientific fact of the matter.

E36 convert = E36 convertible

You should be able to get them from a breakers - try FAB, or log on to Parts Gateway to get in touch with a few at once.

I know from experience that the E36 and E46 are neck and neck in a straight line.

Top ends are as near as damnit the same also (in this instance 165mph, plays 166mph repectively).

Mine did have a couple of breathing mods but I'm not convinced they made much difference other than for the noise.

lol correct it was not a scientific experiment.
He jumped 1/2 a length in first on me (so was giving it beans!) and I recovered and passed him!
He may of been trying harder than me though? ;-)

Fitted Eibach ARB's yesterday, set front hard & rear soft. Also fitted some powerflex bushes to the rear trailing arms & front wishbone bushes. A few weeks ago i fitted new front & rear shocks/springs & all associated nuts bolts/drop links,E46 cab rear top mounts,Z3 plates. The car drives so differently now, nice & tight but still rides the bumps ok on our roads, i wanted to keep standard ride height & some comfort hence the OEM shocks/springs. The difference the ARB's have made is amazing, its taken a lot of roll out & feels very stable on the twisty stuff now. Is it worth getting 4 wheel alignment done ?

Got some Performance friction pads front & rear to go on in the next few weeks but not sure whether to spend the extra & get PF front brake discs aswell or buy the OEM discs, both are floating but the PF ones must be more suited to their own pads i suppose. Anyone using the PF discs or pads, Z rated pads.

Cheers Simon.

Alignment is a must after major suspension replacement like yours - opinions vary on best E36 geometry though. Best to do search on here or http://www.bmwowner.com/forum/ 'cos it is down to personal taste and if you want the car track or road biassed.

No experience of Performance Friction gear - sorry.

Sounds like some good mods there. Where did you get it all from and fitted?
and how much cash did you part with.
I've read that unless you want to track your car then the brake mod is not really worth it for road...
