e30 m3 prices?? Did I miss something??
Discussion
Well, it's long enough ago now and the buyer has since sold it on again (to someone in Italy, I believe)...so I think it's ok by now to say I sold this one just last July for £13.5K ( )...I don't think you get one like this (with all the 'extras' I threw in) for the same price now!

"These things are just getting to silly money now. Frankly there's a lot more car out there for your money."
Maybe, but a good one drives so well, that for some people, nothing else will do.
The combination of keen turnin, beautiful steering weight & feel and balance which very few if any cars can match mean they really are something special.
Some people may think what the fuss is all about, they are just boxy old cars which lack grunt, but so many people have banged on about them for so long that BMW obviously struck gold with the E30 M3.
Yes, I do have one and hope to never have to sell it!

Granted, but a Lotus Elise does all those things and more for less cash. Hence, why they are now ridiculously over-priced.Maybe, but a good one drives so well, that for some people, nothing else will do.

£28k eh? hmmmmmm.......
That is a fair amount of dosh for an e30. Thats getting into CSL money; is there an even comparison between these cars?
As nice as I think e30 m3s are, I cant help but feel these cars have a 25% nostalgic supplement added to their true value and this figure increases year on year.

IMO - noyou buy the car for what it is
a CSL will be faster to get to 60, brake better, be faster through a corner
you buy an e30 m3 for what it is - an iconic car

the market dictates the price, pretty much like any modern classic sought after car - just look at 964 and 993 RSs which are valued at twice the price of vanilla C2 versionsBEST DRIVING CAR I HAVE EVER OWNED!!
my other toy is a 996 but i far prefer to drive my m3 the only other car that compares was my intergrale but that fell to bits!!
i purchased this car 5 months ago, cheap,i have been offered 7k profit, would i sell it? no there cant be another car as much fun as well as being practical and have true classic status ,oh and better than money in bank!!

Having owned a lotus elise and currently own an e30 m3 there is no comparison between the two. An e30 m3 is a full homologation car built at motorsport by hand to a cost of nearly 30000 pounds in 1989. Granted the lotus elise is a fantastic car but it never entered 1320 touring car races winning 0ver 1200 of them! You will never fully understand an e30 m3 until you have owned one.

They are fantastic cars and great fun, they are right up there, but price wise there has to be a bit of nostalgia going on, but surely this is the point with most 'classic' cars.
where would you rather be; cruising down the road in a soft top E type, or in the faster in every way diesel Mondeo?! They have gone beyond speed etc, to use a cliche, they have attained 'thrill of driving'

I notice you are on the other thread and you seem to not think the e30 M3 is anything special.
Well each to their own - it is a homologation special that has widespread appeal, but obviously not to you.
Have you driven a good example (some may not be at their best even if they look good due to wear and tear in bushes etc)?
What car do you drive/aspire to? And what makes it special to you?
I like the E30 M3 for the reason mentioned on this and the other thread. I also have access to a Nissan Skyline GTR32 - a very different car, but also a pleasure to drive (450 bhp at high boost setting!!).
Cheers,

I am a fan of the e30 M3 and have nearly bought one on a couple of occasions, something else has come along as the M3's I looked at weren't really up to standard.
I have no problem with their price, they actually look reasonable compared to other niche cars,,,
What does wind me up is this homologation special lark....sure, I understand the concept, but the E30 M3 is ever so slightly diluted, electric windows, sunroof, often leather trim....these factors and the huge number built, lead me to conclude they will never be worth mega bucks.....doesn't stop it being a great car though

The E30 Evo Sport & the M3 CSL are two great cars & certainly 2 of BMW's best - that's why I have bothThat is a fair amount of dosh for an e30. Thats getting into CSL money; is there an even comparison between these cars?

My Evo Sport with 75k miles is already worth more than 40k miles M3 CSL's, and is quite a bit like the 964RS
The E30 with it's 17 year advantage & great racing history has earned it's nostalgia value, the M3 CSL will do so eventually.
