I said "if YOU'RE in and E46 version" not if bxxxdy Walter R was in one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, we've been here before haven't we? smile

Actually, provided it wasn't at the 'Ring I probably WOULD take up that challenge. Hows that for confidence! Or maybe somewhat tenuous grip on reality. Who knows.
Calm down it's a Sunday...chill smile

Ok then me in the E46 version vs you in the E92 I'm happy to take my chances biggrin

Change the pads and put cups on an E92 and it will stay with a CSL round most circuits and will kill a standard E46. No competition at all...

I'll do it.

Come to a trackday (say at Silverstone GP) with your E46 and if you get within 4 seconds of my E92 I'll give you £500...

Warning. I used to own both an E46 and a CSL and I can tell you categorically the standard E92 will completely overwhelm a standard E46 M3. your shout....

Phatgiixer:- How are you getting on with the E92 at track days? Having just spec'd an '09 (facelift) 997S for Sept 1. with a view to using it as my everyday car and doing a few lighthearted track days/'Ring trips etc (got more focused cars for the serious stuff) I'm now wondering whether I really want to spend £20k more than a new M3 - or £30k more than a lightly used one! I was deeply impressed by my E92 and having previously owned a MK1 997S, suspect it may do the road/track role at least as well as the Porker - and possibly be more fun. Is it taking the abuse OK? Also, of course, having a CSL on order (if it happens) means that a standard M3 wouldn't be a bad place to be from a chopping it in point of view since my Dealer looks after me VERY well.

I have only done one day with it, at Anglesey. The nature of the track is very stop:start (like silly Bedford) and it pounds the brakes. Being my road car, I took it easy, but its poise and controlability exiting corners make it a lot of fun and much faster than the understeery E46. Great punch from the engine meant it was pulling good distance down the straights on a well driven CSL behind me (which then made up ground on brakes as he was running RS29s). The diff is great!

Change the pads, put some old style CSL cups on it and it will be very fast indeed. I would think a good match for a slightly modded CSL and much faster than the cooking E46 M3.

The E46 is a fine car, and handsome, agreed, but I am smitten with the looks of my E92, as it clothes an extremely capable car. Those that s l a g it off have clearly not stretched it to its (considerable) limits...

Edit: FFS! is "s l a g" really worthy of censorship?

The E92 just doesn't have the 'I want one' factor unlike the E46. Plus the market is also affected by the economy which is in a bit of a $hit state with escalating fuel prices to add to the problem so people are not so willing to borrow or pay for £50k+ cars.

Sorry but I still think that the E46 looks soooo much better than the E92 and that new front intake looks like the mouth of a confused looking rock fish which make it look as ugly as sin. The exposed exhaust box doesn't do it any favours at all. The interior looks cheap for a £50k car.
Shame about that box you don't like on the E92 because if you're in the E46 version you'll be seeing lot of it!;)

Seriously when you've driven both let me know if you still feel the same - and why.
I don't think so. Having switched to a motorbike recently, although it's only a Suzuki GSX-R600, it'll certainly leave any E92 M3 for dust so the E92 driver would be seeing the back of my bike tyre instead of the other way roundwink

I did have an E46 for a couple of years and am contemplating getting back into the M3 in CSL form to compliment the bike. But for those who thinks an M3 is fast, most sportsbikes would blow it into the weeds.

Anyway, I'll reserve judgement until I've driven the E92.
sorry but how you can compare a bike to a fast car i just dont know.
you drive a bike fast in the uk and you get dead - i cant think of any bike i would rather ride than my m5
sorry to be blunt on this
