Hi
Please help. E46 engine running rough, mild vibrations felt in the steering wheel, floor, pedals when you hold rev at a steady 3k (worst at 3 but there either side too)
Problem most easily replicated when the car is stopped and in neutral (man gearbox).
Worse when cold
More difficult to replicate when driving due to the state of brit roads but I can feel it on motorway when rev at the same place (particularly on smooth roads). Makes passengers sick on a long run.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Is your car a 6 pot?

Probably a mis-fire, duff plug or coil pack.

Yes, its a 6. I heard it could be coil pack, would this cause bad cold running and lower power too?

Yes....... most definately. If your car was a 4 pot the poor running and low power would be even more noticeable.

Is it an M3?

Mine did exactly that and started to dip a little oil.........big end bearings/new engine thankfully under warranty. All part of the big end bearing recall fiasco (mine had been recalled but it obviously didnt work)

Yes, its an M3. a bit worried about your comments on BE bearings. When did the recall happen? Mines a E36 on a '05 plate.

Doubt that very much, a E46 on a 05 plate maybe. Oil pump/bearing recall was on '02 cars IIRC.

Mine was an 02 plate. Had the recall done, then 9 months later the "new" bearings went.

Could be a bad ignition COP unit, or sparking plug.
If it is not a misfire, then the engine mounts should be checked, the front subframe should be checked to make sure the mounting tabs for the lower stud of the nearside(to you) engine mount has not had a chunk ripped out.
Also the transmission mounts should be checked.
