nobody seriously in the market for these indulges whilst worrying excessively about the price of Tropicana.
I've no idea about their attitude to fruit juice, but they'll certainly worry about fuel.

Whilst the originally purchasers at £80k may well be oblivious to fuel costs, secondhand purchasers at £40k probably will probably be very concerned.
Given the savings bagged via the depreciation, I'd wager not necessarily: £40k is an awful lot of tank fillage, even at today's diabolical levels.
Quite so. PLUS - maths isn't my strong point on a Monday morning or at any other time but I THINK I've got this right - if you do 10,000 miles at 14mpg it's going to cost you all of £800 more than if you did it at 20mpg. If you're reaction to that piece of info is anything other than "big deal" then you probably shouldn't be thinking of buying a big,(very)fast, heavy performance car with all it's potential assosciated running costs anyway! Just enjoy.

That sort of proves my point: yes you can buy an M6 for £40k, but you've still got £80k running costs, hence 'balls of steel'!

Not sure you need 'balls of steel' or that '£80k running cost' means that much either. I can't see where a normally reliable M6 is going to cost THAT much more to run over a given period than say a £20k E46 M3 - which would have the phrase '£45k running costs' attached to it'. Just do it and enjoy it and leave others to witter on about depreciation, fuel cost etc etc etc. You're a long time dead as they say! smile

Just driven mine, like a proper GT, across moor.

Without going terribly fast, simply luxuriating in the sear of 3rd and plummetting of automotive, anvillic hussey: I mean, it's just magnificent; sensational.

Even at £82k this would have been stupendous value but for sub fifty without breaking a sweat?

Dear Lord... cloud9

Yes, yes - but does it do 14 or 14.3 mpg, will it cost a tad more than an M3 to service and will it, whisper it, depreciate? Get a grip on reality man - these things aren't for ENJOYING for gods sake! Er, hang on, yes they are - as you were then that man smile

Yep, was in my local main dealer yesterday thinking about replacing our X5Msportd for an X6 as our daily runabout - do NOT laugh it's very different to an X5 drives superbly MUCH better than the X5 (and that's damn good itself). Totted it all up at £55k then glanced across the showroom to see a 2 1/2 yr old M6 with every option, 12,000 miles on the clock for £45k! We only need two seats and have a Landie for the tip run so methinks I'll be popping back tomorrow. smile

I'm going to invoke PH's deed pole and rebrand Pugsverner 'PuGekko' since verily, automotive greed on his scale must needs be good.

Interesting to read your take on the X rated 6, too...

Saw my second one in a dark blue yesterday and again, did not find myself compelled to vomit.

Quite so. My dealer has taken to parking one 'out front' adjacent to an X5 and in that context it looks really rather good. I borrowed one for the day and found myself appreciating it's looks more and more as the day went buy. It also has ENORMOUS 'move over' effect on the motorway. Whereas - although it is very good indeed for a 4x4 -I always found the "it handles like a 5series" claims for the X5 mildly comical, the X6 really DOES handle that well. Rides better into the bargain. However for £10k less I can be sitting in a - still young - M6 and if I regard that as my everyday workhorse, I don't need the 997S Mk2 I had planned for Sept. either as the M6 will pretty much covers the 911's bases too. So, a £45kish M6 on the drive instead of an X6 AND a 997S leaves me what, £85k to the good? All the better to be able to invest in something more focused - like a Pitts Special maybe. smile

Pugsey, the only other car I fancy right now is a 599: have you dabbled therein yet? I just cannot begin to believe that it's probable maginal superiority is justifiable relative to anything remotely reflected by the premium, marque uber kude included.

Any thoughts?

Spent a week with one. IMHO probably the best car in the Ferrari range - although I personally prefer the more overtly 'race car' mid engined feel of an F430. Is it 'worth' the pennies? No, not to me. Not even remotely. It WILL be a stunning used buy one day though - much as the 550/575 is now.

Just one problem - the financial outlay.

He of the strangulated syntax and the pugnacious one do not seem to share the financial concerns that bug some of us!

I've never been sold on the looks of the 6 series, but having been in DeR's M6 the only word I can think of for BMW's GT is "epic"

Have you checked the road behind you for a trail of petrol?
