Hello, i am interested to know where the best place is to get spares from as i am going to have to change my disc's and pads soon.
Also has anyone got any info or preferences on uprated disc's and pads?

Cheers Andy

Talk to the people who deal with race / track day preparation. Thorney Motorsport, CA Automotive, Bexley Motor Works, and brake suppliers like EBC, Ferrodo, Pagid, AP and Mov'it.

The question is what do you want, more pedal feel, better caliper performance or less fade.

Quite simply the only thing that stops any car are the four tyres...bad tyre pressure or choice and it makes no difference how much you spend on big brake kits you won't stop any faster.

Get some decent hoses, fluids and have the calpiers rebuilt (new pistons etc) before spending silly money on disks and pads, or new full on kits.

cheers for the info.

Im might be going to Nuremberg in the near future and know i will need to replace the tyres, pads and discs as i expect they'll melt. Trying to get a ball park figure on how much standard disc's and pads cost compared to slightly uprated pads and disc's.

What has the headquaters of the Nazi party got to do with brakes? confused

Anyway, to answer your question RE brakes, I'd strongly reccomend you stick with the OE discs. Aftermarket options such as Zimmerman and the like are actually inferior because they are one piece items as opposed the the genuine BMW floating discs. Unless you spend ££££'s on a big brake kit with alluminium bells and seperate discs, you will be buying an inferior product.

Many of the racers on here (i.e. those who compete in the Khumo Championship etc) remain convinced that the standard set-up with some good qaulity pads like Pagids, is the best possible sollution unless you want to really want to spend £2,000 on a set-up that will likely necessitate bigger wheels also.

I recently fitted new genuine discs and Pagid RS42 pads with braided hoses and race fluid for my trip to the Nurburgringwink and was very impressed with how they coped over 4 days and 25 laps of abuse.

The Pagid pads are very expensive, but are most definately worth it.

Budget around £700 if you need to replace all discs and fit decent pads.

You may be right but a better brake set up will mean that you don't stop any faster more consistantly yeshehe
But seriously, it always amazes me how few folk look any further than one modification in relation to one specific area and often overlook the performance link in relation to other not so obvious upratable parts.

for reference its the Nurburgring, Nuremberg was where the Nazis held their rallies i believe, not sure if it has a track though, i dread to think what bumper sticker they would give you?
