I took one for a drive yesterday and I can tell you the handleing is simply staggering. Not just staggering for such a bigcar....overall, just staggering. In he SUV market, no other SUV would see where it went on a twistie road. What they have done is mesmerising with regards to dynamics and handling.
I had the pleasure of one of these at the weekend and spent Sunday thrashing it around Castle Combe with a few other PHers, and unless you have driven it you will never understand what BMW have done with the ride and handling. It cannot be compared to an X5, it handles exceptionally well, was sticking with grip that was unbelievable (the Xdrive system amazed us)and once the V8 is here will be great fun.

But of course this is PH and BMWs are always going to be st, drivens by wrs, cock extensions etc.

Completely agree. Been using one for a few days. Anyone who describes this as a cut down X5 doesn't know what they're on about. It's handling isn't just superb for a big SUV, frankly it's very good by large saloon standards.

It is not a turd though? is it?

You just do not like the styling or whatever.

Why? Why is it a turd then?
Because it's hideous. An eyesore. A carbuncle.

As is a Cayenne, as is a Q7. As is that Ssanyong thing. Compared with, say most of the Range Rovers which actually look OK, the Touareg which looks inoffensive, and even the X5 which has mellowed with age from its original nasty garden-shed profile.

This is nothing to do with it being a PH-type car - it may very well handle well, and be "one in the eye" to the greens. The problem is that it's "one in both eyes" to everyone else as well.

And based on the relative absence of these turds from the streets of London, it looks like this isn't just my opinion, but even that of the taste-deficient Cayenne-owning fraternity as well.

The law should definitely allow these type of cars to be sold. Just as long as they are only type-approved with some sort of urban camouflage paint, or are restricted to being on the streets between the hours of 4 and 6am, and ideally just in Cheshire.

Entirely opinion. Does not explain why it is a turd.

Hardly a surprise. BMW build cars to sell, this will sell. It's not really much worse than the Cayenne.

Nothing wrong with that, every other mainstream car manufacturer does.

And another thing. Not only is it a superb drive but it scatters the oppositon - sorry I mean other road users (you know the one's who daren't put their cars on their profilewink) - on mini roundabouts, outside lane of motorway etc in a MOST satisfactory manner. Like minnows evading a pike they were this morning!

Shame because a 1 series M car would have fitted the bill nicely. As would a 3 series M estate. Missed a trick there with the footballers wives hunk of junk

It is said that Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It is also said that money and taste can be very distant cousins.

I wonder what your missus looks like... hehewink
