I'm thinking of getting my wheels powder coated black or carbon. They are the BMW 19s on a midnight blue(almost black) E46. Has anyone had this done? Would like to see some pictures if anyone has any or knows of any links. Any opinions on whether this would de-value the car?
Thanks in advance.

Suggest that you photoshop a picture of your car before you make such a radical change, I don't have the skills, but I'm sure someone clever will be along shortly

IMO, yes probably. Although only by £500 or so.
I dont think have ever seen an E46 with black wheels. On a positive note, it would reversible. A bit like a vasectomy.

Yes it works with the Grey. However, on a blue car it would look shit in my opinion. This also has a lot to do with the style of the wheel too. The cross spoke looks good in black but the bling-tastic standard 19" would look daft.

I agree.. on the silver grey, particularly with the black shadowline.. it looks spot on for the CSL rims.. I dont think that the regular rims would look at all good black.., same goes for the blue paint.. i dont think this would compliment black rims either..

There's a set on eBay at the moment, perhaps safer to get a spare set and see if you like them? If you do, sell yours, if not, sell the black ones, probably at less than a loss than what you would pay to have yours coated.

For the avoidance of doubt, they are not my wheels and I am in no way connected to them. smile

Hi all

I work next to lepsons and have seen the standard bmw 19" WHEELS painted in many colours and shades
and nothing matches the original diamond cut finish!!!

He is a picture of my M3 with real CSL's wheels painted by lepsons in shadow crome!!!
The finish can be painted from black to bright chrome with every shade between, as the wheels are paint black first then a light coat of chrome is layed over the top to achieve the desired shade and colour then the wheel is laquered and baked!!

Hope this helps

The finsh changes so much in different lights and looking down the ide of the car can look very like carbon and face on in the sun look straight chrome!!

Here is a link to you tube showing the wheels too!!

Another vote for black rims don't go with dark blue paint. A nice gun metal grey perhaps but not black

They look mint! Think I'll just go for a refurb and keep them as they are. Cheers

So true.

One plus of the darker wheel is you dont feel bad about not cleaning your car for weeks.

You need to check out some of the US sites for pics. I'd suggest starting with www.e46fanatics.com and checking out the showroom...
