Ok a question that doesn’t really matter just curios, dose a e46 m3 smg have a kick down in auto mode like a auto box?
I drive an auto at the moment and I quite like the feeling of coming out of a 30mph into a 60 hitting the kick down, car takes a deap breath and wwwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeerotate lol.
Or do you have to do something as energetic as moving a finger and pulling a paddle back? eek

if it is the same as the smg in the m5 then you can put the gearbox into D and it acts like an auto, so kickdown is available.

Gib,

You'll have to use a little energy and push it in to auto mode, and set how aggressive you want the 'box to be. Other than that, i think it opperates in much the same way as an auto.

The thing to note is its not as smooth as an auto as its effectivly a clutch-pedaless manual.

Plus, get the hang of the padle's and they're a lot of fun smile

As long as I don’t wake up with an bad neck I wont mind, I think I would only use the auto mode for the boring drives eg the once in a blue moon I drive down a motorway or the times when your just driving along (or don’t you get Just driving along in a m3 lol) I fear I would forget to change gear coming to a stop thinking I was still in a auto if I were to use the paddles in those circumstances.

It changes down for you in paddle mode and when you come to a stop it puts it in first.
