Hi.

I've heard loads of different stories about CS wheels. Some say they are CSL wheels and some people think otherwise. Anyone know for a fact?
The reason I ask is that since I bought my car it has been fitted with 225/35/19 on the front and 255/30/19 on the back rather than 235 and 265 on the CSL's. Weird no?

The second question is tyres.
Toyo R888's or Cups. Pros and cons? Anyone used the R888's on their car? They seem to be a lot more hardcore! Will teh Cups last a lot longer?

Thanks

Craig

Not 100% sure on the wheels question but am inclined to think that the CSL wheels are lighter than the CS ones.

As for tyres, is this for road or track use?

I would agree with the wheels thing however the fronts have the same part no as my mates CSL?? Weird!

Well i do run the car on the road but hardly any miles. Its mostly track or HARD road driving! (All under the speed limits ofcourse) Perhaps the R888's would be a little too hardcore. Do the Cups last ok?

i'm prepared to be corrected but i understand that 888's don't work well on track with something heavy like a cs or a standard m3. just tend to overheat + loose grip. i've got a standard m3 which i'm looking for a second set of wheels for 'ring trips or as a back up trackday car. was going to put some cups on when i get them because thats what csl's run. not sure if anyone has any thoughts?
or any m3 alloys for sale? would anyone use replicas or would it be safer to stick to originals for a set of track wheels?

the toyo's are better in the wet than cups but the cups offer a little more grip in the dry and make less road noise the toyo's are about £300 cheaper for a set than the cups, wear about the same

If the fronts have the same part numbers on the the cars has the wrong ones on - CS fronts are 8" wide, CSL fronts are 8.5" wide.

I found R888 overheated on the rear much faster than cup, really rate them as a road tyre though as you don't need to work them hard to get them to grip.

So by the sounds of it I can't fit 235 & 265 tyres to my wheels if i'm running 225 & 255 at the moment?

Is it not possible to fit Cups (i.e. 235 & 265) to the standard 19" M3 rim?

235s should be fine on an 8" rim.

Your other option is to get another set of wheels and stick some 2nd hand slicks on for track use...

You can run 245's on the 8" wheel if you want.

As regards the wheels....... Rears are same part numbers for CSL/CS. Fronts are different, CSL wheels are wider. A well used mod was fitting CSL rears on the front with geometry re-set. Fine for the track day.
