Guys, just about to change the oil on my M5. Before I go out and start jacking it up etc etc I take it the filter is easy enough to get to and the drain plug is instantly recognisable?? Can anyone recommend oil and filter - I was going to default to an OE BMW filter and Castrol 10/60 oil - the car is June 2000. Any thoughts and advice most welcome before I go and lie on a cold garage floor!! Thanks

Yes, O/E filter and 10/60 Castrol Edge (Not SPORT!)

The fuel drain has a small flap on the belly plate that will require a socket. This is located pretty much equal disance between the wheels.
The filter is on the top of the engine next to the power steering fluid. This needs a huge spanner of an equally huge adjustable one. I just use a monkey wrench with the head of the filter housing wrapped in cloth. Yes, use an OEM oil filter, what you will save else where is piffle.
The car will swallow 7 lites of Castrol Edge 10W 60 before minor topping off is required.
Just remember not to over tighten the drian/sump plug as if you strip the thread it will cost a bomb, let the copper crush washer do its work.
