I bought the same "rip off" DVD. It's not sold on E Bay - you are taken straight to Paypal (which is presumably the workaround.)

I don't think there's anything wrong with the copy DVD - just the same limitations that you get with all satnav. (The most frustrating being the determination to take you on a long detour to get onto a motorway when a fast dual carriageway would have been much quicker and more direct.)

I would accept that the BMW satnav is pretty poor when compared with a TomTom. I do however use the BMW system since it's an integral part of my car.

The speed cameras are a bit of a gimmick - no audible warning and certainly in my car (a Z4MC) it would mean that I would be taking my eyes off the road for quite a lot of the time.

Most of my journies are over the same routes so I know where the cameras will be - I'm going to buy a Road Angel Plus for those odd occasions when I'm driving on unfamiliar roads.

Sorry for the slight derail, but can you get FULL 7 digit postcode input for Mark 4 DVD satnavs as fitted to my 05 E46 M3? I've already updated the firmware to V32, and I've got the 2009 DVD maps, but it only lets me put in the first five (I think) digits of the postcode then you have to pick the street. I've looked through the X5satnav website but cannot find the answer.

Does the Z4 use a completely different satnav system compared to the Mark 4 DVD systems in late model E46 3 series?

I would appreciate any help.

Cheers

On the pirated disk you have to use the POI search on postcodes. It's a bit long winded but does give you the seven digit search. I'm pretty sure it's the same on the E46 but you will need the right disk, I have an old 2008-2 you might want to try.

Hello mate,

I'm not quite sure what you mean. I've got the POI facility on my disc (cinemas, restaurants, petrol garages, etc etc etc), how do I use that to enable 7 digit postcode search for a destination? I've got both a 2008 (not sure which exact version) DVD maps and a 2009-1 HIGH version, both give 5 digit postcode search but then it narrows it down to a selection of streets from which you have to pick the one you want, doesn't give you full 7 digit search.

Cheers

Toilet Duck,
On the Destination input screen scroll down to information,on information select Travel information,
On Travel information select info on location, scroll down to travel and select which should bring you to UK postcodes, select the 1st letter of the postcode, that will bring you to Uk postcodes enter full postcode into name box and that should do it.Bit long winded but once you remember the sequence it's ok.Thats on a E46 M3 With latest discs, not sure if its the same on Z4 but give it a go.

The factory/dealer sat nav disk only does 5 digit search. If you want full post code search you'll need to buy a disk from someone who has added the entire postcode list as POI's to the BMW disk. As said above when you have this disk you have to use the POI menu to get at them. The disks are £20-40 ea of ebay or similar or you can make your own. There's a 2008 disk out there with camera's and Postcode for £40. Its OK but not as good as a stand alone system. The only advantage of BMW's system is built in security/thief proof and integration with the car.

sorry guys, I'm being thick here...

but are you saying its possible to download (albeit with questionable legality) a file you can burn onto DVD that the Z4M sat nav will use that will give full postcode search and speed camera alerts?
