I have not sat through all 70 odd pages of this thread however I have to concede that what I have seen is very entertaining- it's bad enough sticking the M badge on poverty model BMW's but to stick the badge on Jaguars and VW's is quite clearly insanity........I am very excited to be picking up a 1M coupe next week- just to go with the flow maybe I'll yank the badge off it and stick it on the boot of my Skoda work car........

That's a lot of exhausts. Shame the reg is blanked out, can't check if it's really a misbadged M5...

I reckon there's more 'M' badges in circulation than bmw cars.

The exhausts look kosher, however the tow bar does not look like the factory option for the M5 (I have the Oem westfalia fitted to my touring)

I've been rumbled! smile

It's an M5 with a Westfalia E60/61 towbar fitted using BMW M5 panels. The 520d badge is on the car but the 'M' was just put in place with masking tape. for the piccie.

I find badging an M5 as a 520d just as odd as people badging their 520d as an M5.

Lighten up - the 520d badge just a bit of fun. I ran it for 4 years debadged. Besides, have to tow the Caterham with something, why not an M5?

If it's any consolation amid the glum seriousness here, I'd probably grin if I saw it in the car park, providing the brakes, wing mirrors, gear shift etc looked the part smile

People are funny buggers - if you know what an M5 is then the badge (or lack of) doesn't mean anything - on the other hand a lot of people could only determine a model by its badge and would take it at face value. I had a conversation relayed to me last week in which somebody in the car park expressed doubt about the authenticity of my M5 (which has no rear badge, is caked in mud and generally quite 'low key'). As a contractor on a public sector site that is music to my ears and if the lack of badge helps in any way then the effect is positive. More to the point I think badges just clutter any car and tend to avoid having them applied if given the choice. No inverse snobbery, no statement to make and just my personal preference - get over it!

That photo shows how much they have fallen from grace, unfortunately now consigned to a life as a Chavs Chariot.

I must admit I don't get this 'adding an M badge' thing at all.

I just had a look at what my car would be like with the badge from the wife's Z4MC on it, and somehow I just think it cheapens them both.

This thread is now plumbing new depths of neediness.
