The reason for it is when I bought my car I wanted the E92 M3 but I simply couldn't afford one so over the course of ownership I played with the idea of removing the standard 2L petrol engine and putting in a 3L. I then found a company that can source the complete E92 M3 V8 drivetrain for not much more than buying a reconditioned 3L so for me it was a no brained to spend the little extra and have an M powered car. For most it would seem like a waste of money when I could have just sold my car and added the money I spent on the upgrade to buy a genuine M3 but now the work is done and I have a car that looks like a completely standard 320i (with 320i badge) I get a lot of guys at car meets and shows ask to buy my car because they love the idea of having a "sleeper" car

The looks on people's faces when I've just out dragged them from the lights or left them for dead on the motorway in a little "320i" is priceless ????
Firstly, how can you see their faces if you left them standing at the lights?

Secondly, does anyone actually race at the lights nowadays? I think that's just a delusion used by marketers to make you believe everyone is trying to demonstrate they are more masculine then you, by beating you in a "race" from traffic lights. Thus you must spend more money to be more manly and keep your woman from leaving you for that bloke with a faster car.

Yes, are we supposed to use full-bore acceleration when we leave traffic lights then?

Also, how was the "look on there faces"? Was it a perturbed look, or maybe a look of curiosity. Maybe a full-on open mouthed wide-eyed look?

Or just a look that says - "what an absolute arse-wipe."

Erm, that is how it comes from the factory:

And the difference is confused it's exactly as it comes from the factory.

The picture I posted is my car, new and due to be picked up next Saturday.

Here's the front still wrapped up.

I thought you were being sarcastic about one you'd spotted. I think I'd debadge, it would look better and be a bit of a sleeper.

I probably will debadge it at some stage.

Bearing in mind I'm moving from an F10 M5, a wonderful M machine, It really doesn't bother me about the badging myself, most people simply don't know and more importantly don't care.

I'll buy someone a pint if they spot a German Registered X5M50d that isn't de-badged.

It's amazing how different the market is in Germany. You rarely see an M Sport car, yet the SE's you see are often heavily optioned.

Contrast that with the UK where most cars are M Sport with zero options..

No photographic evidence but I live in Germany and have seen them with all the badges.

I once met an old guy at a motorway service station here in Germany that was driving the latest M5, turned out he had had every version of M5 they had ever produced.

That's a function of we tend to buy (lease) our cars over here.

You need to combine the lowest CO2 engine with the spec with the best residual and then add zero options.

Hence we are mostly all in 320d/520d M Sport Autos for £250-£300 a month.
