Agreed. It was a known car with known issues. It was bought as a fix-er-upper and the price reflected this. Bargains will always be available to people who are willing to get their hands dirty as there appear to be less and less people who feel confident wielding a spanner in this day and age.
What's a spanner?

I was just looking at the ad, what needed fixing? Seller certainly didn't list anything.

wink

Although you would hope this wouldn't need too much spannering! http://suchen.mobile.de/auto-inserat/bmw-m3-csl-1-...

Bit of a LHD/RHD gap developing, even with exchange rates as they are. I expect that will get closed somewhat over the next while

Couple of things I would say about that particular sale is that a) he seemed impatient b) was trying to sell it in the middle of winter c) reduced the price by a LOT and then sold it within 24 hours which suggests to me it was too cheap.

Doubt it, but only needs one desperate person. One selling at an inflated price does not make the market, but does bring out more for sale.

So where do we think they're headed longer term?

As someone who sold a Sport Evo for less than £20K almost exactly 6 years ago and feels like barking carrots every time I see where the E30 SE is headed, I pray my CSL will one day do a similar thing. I know the SEs were produced in far more limited numbers (600 Globally all left-hookers)

My head says sell it and get into a bigger property, but I do not want to miss the boat again. Would rather pay 3 % Mortgage interest and see the CSL go up 20% / year (which is would appear mine has done since I bought it 18 months ago)

The comparisons to Porsche dont seem to mean much, that is to say the GT3s have opened up a large gap in the past few years, 993 Turbos, have gone mental. I don't see them keeping pace with them, even mid-longer term.

I don't see 60K Miles as some point where the values will not rise (look at the Porsches)

I'd love mine to be worth £50K in 2 or 3 years, and I think it quite conceivably could be the way things are headed, and given what the chap recently buying a 35K miler said on a different thread...

What say thee?

Nick.

It's hard to know, I personally think they keep rising as BMW have made nothing like it since.

It's nice not to have lost money on a car, but once you take the annual costs ( warranty, insurance, maintenance etc) into account, the gain is not that great, if anything.

The value is not the be all & end all though, I use mine daily and get far more from that than I do from seeing prices increase by a few grand.

They are going to keep rising.

In two years I doubt your find a high miles one for less than £35k, with most hovering around £45k easy.

I wouldn't sell mine for less than £50k. Im not sure I should even drive it with a brand new engine.

Obviously these are nothing special just the same as a E46 M3

That's what I wanted to hear, and basically my own thoughts too...

What mileage are you on if you don't mind me asking...?

Nick.

They will keep rising due to fun factor , rarity and cost to build , BMW will not be able to make another one unless the price is well over 100k.

Any one had issues with rust as a lot of the E46s are going that way ie arches, front rear wings?

Yes. Nothing special about CSL wings so they rust just the same as a normal E46. Happily front wings are bolt off / bolt on. I've just put new BMW wings on as part of a winter refurbishment. Some may sniff at the car now not being "original" but would they rather have rusty wings? Doubt it.
