That'll just be surface rust and will affect a fraction of millimetere depth. One good stop and the disks will be good as new.

OEM BMW discs are a cut above the AP rotors.

AP rotors have a tendancy to wharp with hard use and normally due to not having enough cooling but the OEM ones seem to be fine.

they should sort that under warranty and just keep on at them. i use synter in high wycombe and they are a good bunch there for warranty stuff.

Bought an E46 M3 last feb from HR Owen
Only done 4500 mls in it.Weekend use only , bought it with 19k ... so total of 23500

Had some odd noises coming from the rear , though it might be the diff.
Took it in to be told it was broken spring and brakes are worn which are not under warranty

The reception bloke tells me that they must be worn out beacuse I don't use the car much !!
Infact I need new discs and pads all round ... in 4500 mls !
He claims I don;t understand. That if th car is not used regularly the brake wear out quicker !
Am I mad .... or is this guy talking b*&£$%ls?
Should I expect them to pay for new discs and pads as they should last sometime ?

If I have to pay for disc and pads all round what should I expect to pay ? parts and labour?

The dealer is taking the piss, no mistake. The pads may indeed be worn as they don't last forever. However, if the car's not seen a lot of track action then after 4500 miles they should not be worn out. However, were they new when you bought the car, or were these the original discs?? I drive a Porker and would expect to get 12-15k out of a set of discs used for normal road driving. You should ask the dealer to tell you the minimum thickness of the discs and then get him to measure them in front of you.

I had this corrosion issue. They are prone if they get water on. BMW issued a circular saying that whenever a car washed drive it immediately to sort water on disc. Did manage to get it sorted moreless. When washed wheels I now Immediately with NO delay take car out and do a couple of brakings to make sure they're bone dry. Sometimes will only do fronts so as not to leave them stnding at all. Also, if coming home in rain I make sure the last couple of stops are hard. Or, wash the car before you drive it ?

Not always possible, I know !

It just doesn't look so pretty on the drive.
