Does anyone know anything about the 51k miles CSL in the classifieds? Any idea of its history etc?

Thanks for any help you can give!

I emailed him, but he has not replied. Looks like a grumpy so and so to me.

Eeeek! Will give that one a body swerve then. Not too keen on a CSL that has been pummelled by all and sundry then crashed!! Do you know the extent of the crash?

Is that the P1 club car?
It too had 51K'ish and was for sale not long ago, someone posted they had brought it on BM3W.com
Personally I think any of those driving club cars will have been thrashed, I'd do it if I belonged to one.

Currently been discussed on BM3W. Said he won't take less than £28k for it, which with those miles and its allegedly abused history, I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole. Its been on the market for 4/5 months at least ...

With respect guys who buys a CSL to polish on the drive each Sunday? If you do you are a little sad, I suggest a 316i in that case. These cars were built for one thing: THRASHING. I know who is buying the alleged Damon Hill car, and I know what will be done to it, Roll cage, brakes, etc etc, and when finished it will be used for major track days and thrashing. If any of you are at Spa on the 6/7 June you will see it as it passes you being THOROUGHLY THRASHED. I have sold 50 cars in 20 years and if anyone buying a second hand CSL, 911 GT3, 968 thinks it hasn't been thrashed then they are 95% certain to be dreaming.

51000 miles at full throttle but properly maintained and serviced with BMW Warranty is a mere drop in the ocean for a car of it's calibre. Also panel damage happens to loads of cars and my mint M5 has had a back wing after some over enthusiastic driving. Does this make it a bad car? I can also do a set of tyres in a day, again is it a bad car? I think not.

These cars were nearly £60,000 new, at three years old it's already down to 28,000 and dropping! They will soon be £20,000 Track Day animals and I may even be tempted to buy one myself. For what it is going to be used for this car is perfect.

Tell me you don't know someone with a one owner M3/M5 that has been mollycoddled from new, low miles always warmed up properly blah blah blah, and after all this the car has still been nothing but trouble? I know of, and read about, plenty on these and other forums!

Bit of a rant I'm afraid but where else will you get this kind of Track performance for £28,000? Judge a car once you've seen it as it is for sale. Do you know what spares package etc it comes with included in the price? Definately don't be put off by rumours and other peoples stories of what they MAY have done to a set of tyres in a day etc etc etc

no rumours mate. I have the video footage somewhere if you want me to dig it out.

have fun racing at spa and we may be out there as going out for the 24 hour vln.

you pays your way and as you say if it has been looked after then fair enough. case closed I believe.

Ahh me? 27K miles, warmed and thrashed realistically e.g. around 5% of the time, 2 track days last year and no trouble ('cept for some interior trim), for a counter point read about Raj's (c5l), reguarly thrashed and costing an arm and a leg to run.

Good to have opposing views although most CSL owners I know use their cars everyday, not many can afford a 28K track day only car (why would you bother with a CSL for track days only, plenty of better, faster, cheaper specials out there). So if you were buying a car, for yourself, with hard earned cash, would you want a cherished car or one with a chequered history??
Again, as you say, judge a car when you see it. Personally misaligned panel gaps, shagged gearboxes, drivetrain slack etc.. don't rock my boat and I bet my motor at 51K will be a much better buy.
Bottom line is that the miles and history don't realistically reflect the price, plenty of good mid 20K mileage examples now around high 20's.

I would have thought a rolled car would have been close to a write off anyhow, so if its not Cat D/C then it probably wasn't.

not of the roll over you monkey!!

of us nailing the car when it was picked up from P1!!

the roll over is naturally a rumour....but the carbon roof is rumoured to have been intercepted in transport and then appeared in ebay...

you know how these things spread!

Why buy a car thats had a very hard life, when you can buy one that hasn't?

Non-screwed cars are much better than screwed to death, give me a well looked after garage queen any day.

Hardly rocket science
