I was looking at that today actually but thought I'd avoid the cams (stage 3) as it just doesn't seem worth 2K for an extra 10hp.
Stage 2 seems good though, e.g. pipe and chip.

"But Rob, you no longer have your CSL" you quip.
Ah yes but I'm going to get one in around 6 months again once I satisfy my Ultima lust. And this time I'm doing it right e.g. Black (haha shocker), KW shocks or at least a suspension set up e.g. Camber, AP brakes, Cups and Thorneys stage 2. It'll be my trackday joy.

I too would be interested to know if anyone runs Thorneys Stage 3 conversion.

The man has a great rep amongst the VX220 fraternity... I spoke to him when I had my T an he's a thoroughly decent sort.

Rob,

let me know if you'll be out at the 'ring again this year -will take you out in my car now, no cams or exhaust on it, but its a strong engine smile - and its very well setup now- lots quicker than last year.

thanks

Andy

Andy,
That'll be brill, I'll avoid Thorleif thoughwink

I'll be in either an Ultima or CSL. Last year I did 8.42 round the 'ring and that seemed bloody fast so not sure what to make of sub 8min times.
I'll also get some advice from you on suspension set up if I go the CSL route as track toy.

Cheers,
Robin.

I got the stage one from thorny last week as i was not happy with the car, it turns out the flap in the carbon air in take was not working so that was fixed and with the add of the re map the car feels brand new smile no more jerking around when cold pulls alot more stronger all way through rev range and just feels alot quicker, also it now putting out a real 364bhp and as before it was a full 14bhp less than this very happysmile

Thorney has done all the brakes and suspension on my CS...

I find him very helpful, and he knows his E46's... my car was the guinea pig car for the front end KW3's with top-mounts which we got done, and are now on the market, as an upgrade..without going to the clubsport kit..

I'm considering the power upgrades next.. but the cams and xorst and chip is a dear option..
£5K for 35 bhp.. i not sure yet.. confused

I cant see a huge laptime improvement to justify that.. but im open to it if i'm wrong..!

Myself and a LOT of other vx220 owners would beg to differ with that comment! Have a look on http://www.vx220.org.uk/forums/

Without having to search through a whole lot of stuff on a different site, whats the basic issue some have with Thorney's?

I seem to recall some people claimg that their modified engines weren't giving the same results as others.

From my limited research it would appear that most of the complaints were from people who didn't appreciate that all engines are different... laugh.

Thorney it would seem was, unsurprisingly, quoting the highest achieved figures for his power packs.

I've driven the Thorney upgrade on the Lotus Europa and it transforms the car. From what I can gat5her they are new to Lotus but already getting a good rep within the Lotus community.

Maybe new to Lotus but not to the VX and VXT which, CMIIW, donated the motor to the Europa?

Had a chip from autologic and a milltek can and mine is still only giving out 326bhp from the dyno at simpsons, reckon there's not much left in the s54 to play with they just tend to move the power around to give better responses.

Had a simota carbon induction kit which i soon sold on as it was giving me less than standard, anyone else had one of those??
