I've read that a mk2 top end on a mk1 engine is a viable tuning mod...Any thoughts on this, as I've got a complete(less block,pistons,crank)motor for a mk2 2000 'W' 1.8 Any advice would be tops!! (excuse the pun!! ) Paul

Yes, the Mk2 head flows better than the Mk1 head so is a good upgrade. Do you have the Mk2 intake manifold?

...yes, everything is still connected to the head, including the exhaust manifold, I think! The bottom end threw a conrod through the block, but it was easier to buy another motor, than find just a bottom end

Then go for it. I think you need to make something up to trigger the valves in the plenum but that seems to be quite simple. Nutz is probably the place to go for advice on that one
