Painted the sills.

No filler or any effort whatsoever to hide the repair plate.

1/ If you need filler you're a crap welder.
2/ Filler on the sills used to be an instant M.O.T fail. Not so much these days but I prefer to show my working.

If I'm preparing a car for off road or rally use I cover the sills up to the bumper line with truck bed liner and paint over the top. It's really durable and fewer holes and cracks means no way for water to get in under the paint and rust from within. Sadly I only had Hammerite today but it looks a damn sight better than it did this morning. wink

Good thread LK. This has also reminded me, I need to check my sills. I hope they aren't dud from the inside.

For the decals, why not try them on the wings?

That's an improvement over the Minilite-esque wheels. All four wheels, tyres, locking nuts and nuts for less than one tyre.

These MX5's a bit expensive aren't they? hehe

Out with the old...

...in with the new...

...I like these Porsche replica wheels better than the Minilite replica wheels the car came with. hehe

Six inches wide so tyre choice is a little less restrictive but the lack of power steering is now more obvious.

Hairdressers car? If I drive this about for a few months I could get a management job and grow a goatie. wink

With a history file Martin Scorsese and Peter Jackson would fight over the film rights to the car's worth £800-ish with a receipt and V62 the car's worth £250!!!

I've put selling the car on hold until a new V5C turns up. I also have some shiny new brake discs and pads to take care of the advisory list.

While she's up on ramps I'll take a wire brush to the rusty looking suspension bits and hammerite what's left. wink

Too bloody hot to be crawling about under my car today.

The brakes can wait as the new V5C hasn't arrived yet.

The new log book arrived in the post today so I fitted the new brakes.

Now there is a plethora of information about the MX5 on the net and how to guides so I won't bore you all with the gory details.

But I will pass on my top tip for these calipers as I have used MX5 brakes on the back of several rally and kit cars in the past due to their simplicity and selection of pads available.

You will need...

...a 14mm socket, short extension, ratchet, 4mm allen key socket, short extension and driver.

Get the car up on ramps.

Locate the 14mm cover bolt for the piston adjuster.

Remove it with the socket.

Finally use the allen key to pull the piston back before you even take the wheels off.

Do the same the other side and you can swap pads and discs in ten minutes.

With a new log book, new MOT and new brakes to address the advisories the should be worth £600-£800 again. She's now on eBay as I have my X1/9 for my topless pop up light fix. biggrin

Sold for £565.55

£121.45 loss.

If the history file hadn't gone AWOL the car would have been a lot more. frown

So lessons learned?

1/ If you're over the limit to drive DON'T go on eBay. Yeah right! If I ever learn from that it'll be a dark day on Pistonheads.

2/ Do not leave the history file on the passenger seat of a convertible that's being taken out for a test drive.

wink
