Hello all,

I've never ventured into this part of the forum before, as well, I never owned an MX5 before.

But tonight I'm picking up an R plate (97) Mk1 UK car. 1.8, with nothing electric, in lovely shiny black.

New sills a few years ago, no rust anywhere else.

Full Mazda history, just a smidge under 60k on the clock.

My question however is this, I do roughly 20k a year, how often do the cambelts need doing on these? The guy has had 3 fitted (same owner since new) but wasn't sure how often the interval actually was!

I've only a had a brief play in it, but cant wait to pick it up later, easily the funnest car I've owned.

Not bad for £900 smile

Simon

PS. Any tips for routine maintenance etc?

I think the MX5 engine is non-interference, so even if the cambelt goes, there will be no catastophic damage.

As for routine maintenance, just the usual should do. Make sure the drain holes are kept clear to prevent the sills rusting again. There's plenty of info out there. Check the MX5 owners club and MX5Nutz websites for more info.

There's some decent books out there too, so probably worth looking on Amazon or similar.

Post some photos when you get a chance, sounds like a cracking car.
