Although we probably won't get to see it until Thursday as 'tomorrow' translates to 6pm US time...

We know some of the basics - what are you hoping for?

Let's hope for:

Less than 1100kg for the RC (we can hope)
200 bhp and 200 ft/lbs N/A (biggest issue I have with my NC is lack of torque)
Soul red as a colour option (did you see the Anniversary edition at the FoS? yummy)
Black Alcantara
Dark wheels

Other than that, if its as good as my NC I will be on the waiting list.

I hope for genuinely lightweight. Closer to 1000 than 1500KG.
Handing that's safe but rewarding to throw around.
A strong bottom end in the engine.
Plenty of space in the engine bay.

You want 200 bhp and 200 ft/lbs from natural aspiration in a car launched in 2015/16? Get off! It will be turboed...

Well it is a wish list!! Although BBR claim to do it for the existing MX-5, I agree with your sentiment as that doesn't have to meet emission and consumption expectations.

It's using a SkyActiv engine, so no chance of it coming with a turbo.

Liking the sound of the Alcantara, beinging to think black wheels are a bit two years ago, especially on a white car, so hopefully an option.

As for Soul Red I would be very surprised if it isn't the launch colour as it has been for the 3 and the 6. Hopefully they might be a bit braver with the rest of the colour range.

I think Mazda should be applauded for the fact that it appears no leaked photos of an actual real car have made it out or full information on the specs, makes me feel like a kid at Christmas wondering what I'm going to get. bounce

As for engines I heard 1.5 and 2.0 litre engines at first but then recently have heard mumblings about a 1.5turbo. Its seems to have gone very quiet on the Fiat/Alfa link-up too which is nothing but good news. We shall wait and see... 11 hours to go.

skyactiv technology whilst being primarily engine-based also looks at aerodynamics and weight of the car, so potentially we could have something quite interesting.

DI engines take well to boosting but i can't see it happening here and i don't think it'll be particularly easy for the aftermarket.

I think it will be 2 litres about 170bhp and good fuel economy, weight down 100kg to around 1 tonne. The handling will be improved but I hope they do not put electricity powered steering in!

What I would have liked them to do is a lightweight 1.5 3 cylinder engine for the base model with about 130bhp. That would have had a lot of character. The faster version could have had same with supercharger and given 200bhp. The fuel consumption would be poor though.

Well I got the Soul Red and dark wheels right... not sure it looks a whole heap different from the NC - the windscreen surround and wing mirrors look identical...

Its soul red.

Its a soft top so far from the look of it.

Its got a black windscreen surround and mirrors, so the 25th Anniversary wasn't a hark back to the old car, it was clues to the new. Sneaky Mazda.

The round side indicators have been replaced with flashes. The back looks like a little like the F-Type. No shots of the front yet.

Its Fatty Le Bon and the rest of the Brummies going through their greatest hits at the moment. I'm only typing this so I can stay awake while they miss keys.

Morning timbo! wavey

Photos are up on Mazda.com. interior is lifted from the Mazda 2.

I'm a bit disappointed, but need to know the specs before forming an opinion.

Electric window switches in the door, that'll confuse some previous owners!
Liking the interior door trim with the silver cut line and the body finished top section.
Can't see the HUD system but judging by the big centre dial I guess its there. (good thing?)
Loving the fact they haven't 'over wheeled it', nice and neat set up which hints at the lack of weight and the handling.
Shame no hard top option straight away. Be nice to see it with the roof up.

The front looks bloody awesome! How have they got the headlights so small?

Got to say from those pictures, I'd say they've got it right. Interior looks cluttered but then again all modern cars do. It looks like an MX-5. In fact to me it looks like it has the stance of an NA, something none of the previous models have done.

thumbup basically.

Skinny 195/50/16 wheels, according to this: http://www.motoring.com.au/news/convertible/mazda/...

Heavier than expected - it doesn't look like it'll be anywhere near ~900Kg

the mk1, with lack of any significant chassis bracing or safety equipment was over 900kg.
How did you think they would make a modern car lighter than that?

skinny tyres is a good thing, i hope this does well, it's the first mx5 i think that looks ok out of the box.

I'm liking it so far.
Alfa/F Type esque.
We now await with further interest the engine specs.
So thumbs up for now smile

The colour scheme looks the same as my Monza red s2k. Got to say I like it. But they have copied the front of a GT86 and the rear of a F-type. Not a bad combination..
