Yes of course they are, the average man on the street sees a small slow convertible.
And gives you the coffee beans while he seethes impotently behind the wheel of his battered people carrier, enjoying the sheer manlyness of a 1.6 petrol engine and the ever present smell of piss and sick from the back.

Yes of course they're girly...in fact there are very few convertibles aren't girly.
If you're tall and a bloke, definitely don't by an MX5 - your head sticking out above the windscreen looks properly daft.

But if you don't care what people think it's not an issue (but you do care, cos you started this thread?)

First car, lowered suspension and modiifications you say- could be an interesting call to the insurance company.

Anyhow, no it's not girly. Quite why people are under the impression that all 2 seat sports cars are girly when the vast majority are driven by single blokes or couples without kids is beyond me.

Strangely a friend of mine who has a modified mk3 MR2 often gets asked if it's blokes carlaugh

We're not talking about all 2 seat sports cars. We are talking about the girly Mazda MX-5.

And those MR2 questions - they are probably asking in disbelief.

Mike, why do you think it's a girly car?

Yep, all generations of MX5 are girly cars. No amount of modifications can change that, the best you can hope for is an angry girly look.

The shape basically. What else is there? Nice, pretty, harmless, sweet, inoffensive and not aggressive. And I have to say that most of the ones I have seen have been driven (rather slowly, but hey) by ladies. And there's nothing wrong with any of that at all.

When I see one I just can't get the girly stereotype thing out of my head, whatever I try. So personally I'd never buy one.

But don't let me put you off for God's sake!

Paint it pink. Put some of those eye lash things around the headlights.

Then go drifting it around roundabouts and stuff.

haha you're new around here so perhaps you have missed the 1001 topics on "what makes a sports car", apparently even a 10 hp 2 seater car with no roof is definitely a sports car where as a 4 seater coupe that shares any component with a 4 door saloon is very much not a sports car ;-)

IIRC reading on PH, that there were some government statistics gathered from around 1990 to 2013.

It looked into the relationship between Mx5 ownership, and man-on-man relationships.

Its a bit vivid now, but I think there was a 92% correlation.

Good luck, you might fall into the 8%.

If you don't - welcome to Mx5 ownership

wink

FYI: I only look girly in mine when I am wearing my dress.

I had a 2007 NC2.0 Sport with the lowered springs. Wasn't a fan of the MX5 until the NC which I thought looked a bit more masculine with the bulgier!? wheel arches. I am 6ft2 and 16 stone. found it very comfy. Used to get some smart arsed comments though.
But did enjoy a 2week trip from Hull to Holland-Belgium-France-Switzerland-Germany-Luxembourg- Belgium and back to hull. Fitted us two and the luggage fine.

I know a girl that's got one and she's gay, if that helps.

On a serious note it's the grey colour at the top - suits it.

We have one. They do sit very high.
Take it to wheels in motion in Chesham. £400 drops it 35mm with a full geo setup. Tranforms the looks and handling with no noticable detriment to the ride.

I used to own a Porsche Boxster to which my friend referred to it a hairdressers car. He was driving a 49cc moped. Most people who think that don't matter.
