Just failed on sills - I put new ones on but I left a small slit about an inch on each side for drainage & ventilation. Tester says I have to weld it up, but I can then drill a hole in it if I want.

Is it worth having a bit of ventilation there in peoples experience?

It was initially very damp back there when I ripped the layers of old crap off.

The stock sills have drain holes at each of the 4 jacking points (which usually get blocked and cause the sills to fill with water).

I got my Mk2.5 back from Gareth the MX5 Restorer earlier today the sills and box section were really rotten. He and his guys have done a brilliant job and I would highly recommend them to anyone considering getting the sills or other bits done. He also sorted the chassis rails as well so it was a big job but now I've got peace of mind they have been dealt with! I just need to rustproof the rest of the underside and then work out how to fit all the wheel arch guards back in ( I had removed them all at home). Replace the discs and pads, then install the new speakers that came still in the box when i bought it. Then I guess its time to wash, polish the car and the treat the leather seats. I've never done this much to a car before. But I'm really enjoying it and all the readily available knowledge (and opinions) that are on here.

Hi Charlie. Get yourself over to http://www.mazdamenders.net/forum/ for all the good technical advice you can handle smile

I use PH as a great social site with like minded people but Mazdamenders is the best site for information on any MX5 jobs you might need to do without long discussions involving input from people who have no idea what they are talking about or telling you to just slam & drift it (Nutz) or that you should leave everything stock (OC). PH is a happy medium with good advice and also good chat with pleasant people but MM is the place for techies biggrin

Gareth did both Mrs Hol's 2.5's rear arches and front rails, plus a full underseal just over two years ago.

The bits he did are still 100% clear of any rust.

Garath has done a fair bit on mine and its worth the trip. One of the few places where you drive away feeling confident the new metal isn't already rusting. Been there done that!!

My sills require chopping and welding before they get too bad. Do they weld in a repair panel and have it painted?

If you dont mind me asking what was the rough cost per side for sill replacement?

Ugh, I do my best trying to get rid of that crap on Nutz frown

I like to think that there is still quite a lot of technical knowledge left too. Particularly on the electronics side of things.
