mk2 1.8
For a long run, ~39mpg, for shorter journeys (mixture of town/country/motorway) ~30-34mpg. That was when I was using it as my daily driver a few years ago. Now it doesn't get driven on a regular basis for me to monitor it's mpg as it approaches its twilight years.

MPG is completely dependent on your driving style. It's possible for 2 people to drive the same car and one to see 20mpg and the other 40mpg. Even if both drive "enthusiastically" 2 people can get very different figures. How hard/late you are on the brakes, how early you lift off, how high you rev it, all sorts of things contribute to mpg.

My C220 diesel Merc has taught me all about how to drive economically thanks to it's mpg-nag-ometer. I can get 60mpg or 40mpg on the same roads at more or less the same speeds, driven so that a passenger wouldn't notice the difference just by changing the way I accelerate, lift off, change gear etc. Not had a chance to put the same theories into practice on the MX5 and probably won't bother trying as it's my fun 2nd car and I don't care about getting economy from it.

p.s. and to answer the thread title - Mk2.5 1.8 Sport supercharged, indicated just over 150mph wink

How many revs Lazza??

I wound my turbo up to 135 indicated and it felt there was a bit more in it, though it was screaming 7,500rpmyikes (5 speed box)

off topic a bit but would a 6 speeder make any difference to high end cruising over the 5 speed? im not really after top end increase but i do like to make "progress" without spinning the engine till its dizzy. Currently 100mph is around 6,000!!

It wasn't quite up to red-line, around 6k. Mk2.5 with Torsen and 6 speed is geared to hit around 158mph at red-line.

I can't imagine doing 150 in either the NB I owned previously or the current NC. I just feel so vulnerable at anything over 100mph.
Sure, I've driven my previous Audis at 150, but they just felt more solid and less exposed.

There's so much wind resistance at higher speeds that you'd be lucky to get anywhere near 150.

I've seen 110 - 115 out of an NB & NC on track. The cars were stable enough at that speed though. The only hint that you're going quickly (other than the impending corner getting close) is the airflow over the windscreen.

As the man Lazza says I find that if you accelerate with a light foot but let the car rev a bit you can get very good mpg with decnt ground covering, but..............I like using a sports car now and then and give it plenty!
