I admit i'm being a little lazy here but can anyone tell me if the plastic window unzips completely from the mk1 hood or whether it only unzips enough for when you lower the roof?

I've never unzipped it when lowering and have only just found out that its recommended that you do.

The reason i'm asking is that incould do with replacing the hood but the window is fine so i am thinking about obtaining a roof with a knackered window and swapping them over. I've a strong feeling this wont be possible though.

Pretty sure they do come right out, in fact I think you can get glass ones to zip in as well as an upgrade.
Yes you are supposed to unzip them so they can lie flat when folded. Must admit I forget half the time but what I do is have a rolled towel in there to stop it cracking. Used to do this on my TVR and it works.

Even with a rolled towel in mine cracked. If that section completely unzips could anyone direct me to where I can get a replacement? The hood is in great condition aside from the window with tape on it.

OP, I believe that original back screens zipped to the roof to a point, and then had extensions to each side that velcroed to the rest of the roof . These can be completely removed. However many later replacements were stitched into the structure of the roof, allowing you to unzip and fold the screen down, but not remove it completely.

So you need to see which one you have before a decision can be made.

Also, I know that best practice is to unzip before you fold, but typically rear screens crack when you flip the roof from inside the car as the plastic creases non uniformly as the roof folds. I have always opened the roof standing outside the car, and use my arm to put a single crease to the screen as it folds, and have yet to see any cracking.

Try Jack Smith Trimmers in Swansea - all-round good guys and quality at very reasonable prices.
Think their number is 01792 461 022 or try faceache.
Cheers, Pewe.

The window should be removable but it is attached to the rain-rail so to swap the rear window you have to do most of the work you'd need to do to swap the whole hood.

It's a toss up between the zip breaking or the screen cracking. Mine was stitched in by a previous owner after I presume the zip broke. IN my case the plastic screen seems like it's non standard and doesn't seem to mind being folded.

The problem is, they seem to not mind being folded until they don't. Then they crack. Much better to always unzip then it's not a problem.

I've found the company on EBay DEKE mentioned that'll repair the screen section so I'll send it off to them and report back with the results. £50 seems quite reasonable for it.

Glad you found them cause I had a look after posting and could not remember where they were at. As hood leaks slightly and is torn where they all go I am looking and hoping to try and get one with frame and all, easier to fit, also hopefully a glass window. Have the hardtop on at moment as snowing up here in Moray. Typical car just back on road today since being sorned in November. Roll on summer.
Cheers
