Awesome, what's that black thing on top of where you sit though? Don't recall that being on the one I drove, certainly not whilst there's a big yellow thing out!
Of course not, the photo was taken after parking it up for the day. Very much looking forward to the top-down commute home!julianc said:
Absolutely nothing wrong with the springs in the 2.0 Sport - this is a sports car, after all, get used to it!
Nothing like as firm as the springs in our TVR.
I've just been out for a passenger ride in a colleagues 2.0 Sport Nav and, while a passenger ride doesn't give me all the information I need, it certainly feels a lot softer than my current car! To me it felt supple and seemed to be soaking up the bumps pretty well and it handled roundabouts, including some with some dodgy surfaces without a fault.Nothing like as firm as the springs in our TVR.
Like I say, it will need a proper test drive for me to know for sure but it certainly felt good from the pax seat.
Had a fairly brief test drive in a 1.5 SE-L today and came away pleased with what I sampled. I do have a couple of question that you knowledgeable people may be able to help with.
Does the MX5 nd have any under body corrosion protection other than paint?
The steering around dead ahead seems to take a few degrees of input before any response, is there a particular reason for this or just due to it's relatively soft set up?
Will try and get a prolonged test in the 1.5 and 2.0 to confirm the good impressions from this drive!

I don't think so, there is a difference between sports and plain uncomfortable, not just my opinion.May have been tyre pressure related but there are quite a few reports of unsuitability on poor road surfaces.
A real shame.

Hence the difference of opinions on this matter.
Being critical of Mazda here for the moment, maybe something they should have improved was the body roll and perhaps do like the germans and give options on the suspension settings at a press of a button, comfort, normal, sport. I don't think that would add too much weight.
Mind you, that's going down a very slippery slope considering the ethos.

Suspension compliance is a bit like thoughts on does a car look good. All up to what the person's preference. Bit like how much noise and exhaust should make etc.It depends on what roads you drive on of course as well.
Hence the difference of opinions on this matter.

I agree that we are all different, but there is a level of sophistication missing in the Sport suspension. I would much prefer an upgrade option of Ohlin dampers, 30mm shorter springs and thicker ARB's. It would ride and handle much better than the Sport on Billies, but would probably add £1500 to the car.Hence the difference of opinions on this matter.

You do have that option. If you buy the car you can do what you like to it.
Personally I liked how the Sport felt - in fact I thought it was fairly soft.
Sure - but you lose the Mazda warranty cover on the suspension, it would need to be declared to Insurers as a modified car, and I'd be paying twice for these items.Personally I liked how the Sport felt - in fact I thought it was fairly soft.
Mazda could wrap these up into a 'pack' and call it something like, I don't know, 'Club Sport'? I think the take up would be pretty high.
