Interesting review of the Bilstein effect.

We went out last week in both the 1.5 and then the 2.0 whilst my 3 was being MoTd and serviced.
Guessing the latter was the Sport
Anyway - enjoyed driving both.
The roads of Herefordshire are not the smoothest and neither felt bad
I did like the revvy nature of the 1.5 but preferred the extra guts of the 2.0 which was revvy in it's own way.

I still prefer mine and for a lesser considered reason.
The ND lets in more water around the windows when the top's down in the rain than the NCs.
Oh and mine has extra oomph but the other half's is standard and i still enjoy that one on our roads - and that's a 3.5 with Bilsteins.

Still - i think the ND shows much promise.
Only spotted one out in the wild since the release other than around Kelmarsh last month. Up on the Shrewsbury bypass

Nice anyway smile

Picked up ours today and put 50 miles on it around the Surrey / Kent borders.

Bloody love it.

Picked my 2 litre Sport Nav up this morning. Very happy. Done about 50 miles and haven't been over 3k rpm yet. Is anyone else running theirs in? I see there's nothing in the manual about it.

Judging by a thread on another forum I reckon it's a track ready ND and very nice it looks too.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the springs in the 2.0 Sport - this is a sports car, after all, get used to it!
I don't think so, there is a difference between sports and plain uncomfortable, not just my opinion.

May have been tyre pressure related but there are quite a few reports of unsuitability on poor road surfaces.

A real shame.
Having driven a 2.0 Sport on poor roads and over road humps. I really, and I mean really struggle to see where or how people are coming up with it being uncomfortable. It rode brilliantly IMO. And not just for a sports car.

Suspension compliance is a bit like thoughts on does a car look good. All up to what the person's preference. Bit like how much noise and exhaust should make etc.It depends on what roads you drive on of course as well.

Hence the difference of opinions on this matter.

Being critical of Mazda here for the moment, maybe something they should have improved was the body roll and perhaps do like the germans and give options on the suspension settings at a press of a button, comfort, normal, sport. I don't think that would add too much weight.

Mind you, that's going down a very slippery slope considering the ethos. smile

I suspect the body roll is intentional though. Part of the character of the car. I also don't think firming the suspension up would be the answer there, it would be a matter of anti roll setup.

I also suspect that the roll is there to hark back to the Mk1 and even to cars like the MGB and Elan. And to add as a contrast to something like the GT86/BRZ which has little to no roll and a completely different feel.

All back to back tests I've seen, seem to agree the MX-5 is more fun, so maybe the body roll while evident, isn't actually the bad thing some are making it out to be.

50 miles round the bottom of the M25 this morning went smoothly enough despite the usual traffic jams.

Maybe a little unsettled on the worst surfaces, but really no issues with comfort at all.

Also tested the bluetooth - the headrest speakers are surprisingly effective.

Still haven't driven one. Sat in one today, love how you can see the whole bonnet in front of you. Interior seems nice. Not as much space in the wheel arches as I was expecting, the old one looked like it was on stilts.

Didn't like the rusty springy feeling of the clutch action I tend to associate with cheap cars but probably due to it being brand new.

Could some settle this for me. Does the 1.5 SE-L have speakers in the drivers headrest? Mazda brochure says yes, dealer says only on 2.0 SE-L

Was the new mx5 in ecoty 2015? If it has anything in common with the old élan, it must be right up there.

MX-5 was in 3rd place in Motor Trend's 2015 Driver's Car of the Year .. just look at the price and weight of the other cars!

It wasn't. Don't think EVO are the biggest fans.
