Hi Julian
one of my friends brought this to my intention. My car does do the exact same however Id say It's no issue at all, as mentioned it comes across as backlash even in forward gears. My S2000 and the GT86s at work do it as well.

Thanks for the info.
Interestingly, some weeks ago my dealer arranged for me to test another 160ps Sport Nav, which made exactly the same drive train backlash noise, so I was happy it wasn't a fault on my car. Being technically minded, I then asked my dealer for the email address of someone in Mazda UK's technical support function to discuss it with them. Mazda UK actually sent their Field Engineer to spend a couple of hours with me, discussing questions I had and he had the car on the ramp as well to check the drive train. Verdict: this is a feature with the LSD on the 160ps Sport Nav, and this noise is also there on the equivalent NC LSD. Great service from my dealer and Mazda UK to put my mind at rest and satisfy my technical curiosity.
Now just enjoying the car immensely, as we should all do.

Glad to hear it. I must admit I listened out for what you described and couldn't register anything, but I'm really not very mechanically minded I have to admit. Thanks for the info.

50% deposit and 0% finance if they're still doing it might be your friend?
Just paid off 2 loans and enjoying being debt free at the minute, so I might have to wait a while before taking on some again. As nice as it is. I never buy new anyway, so I can wait. Mannginger said:
Edit: Seems it's in the passenger footwell on/near the transmission tunnel
Yup, didn't RTFM carefully enough. Although only one small paragraph referring to it and with lots of pictures of the cup holders around it quite easy to miss. Anyway happy bunny now I can use my crusty old sat nav. Having seen where the socket is though its not the most accessible, well not from the drivers seat at 70mph Mr-B said:

Having seen where the socket is though its not the most accessible, well not from the drivers seat at 70mph Anyway, I'm enthusiastically trying to souce a proper stubby aerial for my car, but the £5 ebay jobby hasn't got a big enough 'base' that doesn't look right on the car. Does anyone know which one is best to use? I see the BBR MX5 has one that looks good...!
On recommendation I ordered this one from Moss: http://www.moss-europe.co.uk/aerial-stubby-909-675...
It said out of stock when I ordered it but it still turned up 10 days or so later so presume their turnaround is pretty decent. Don't have the car yet so hoping it's not got a similar challenge to yours!

Thanks for this. At £30 it's expensive but ordered - nothing but the best! I'll upload a pic of it fitted in a few days if you like?It said out of stock when I ordered it but it still turned up 10 days or so later so presume their turnaround is pretty decent. Honestly I have no idea! Bought off spec so I guess I'll find out in a few days.
I didn't really mind the normal (leather) seats but I've never had a car with Recaro seats and when I saw the spec it seemed like pretty respectable value for money over the 2.0 sport and as I'm getting it stage 2 tuned I thought the seats would match the relative focus of the car.

What's the story with the warranty on the upgrades?
Almost guarantee Mazda will wash their hands on any drive-train warranty claims so I'll be buying BBR's which they sell at £150/year or £400 for 3 years covering the full drive train. Only slight issue is they'll need the car at their workshop to do any repairs so in worst case scenario I may need to get it taken up there but it's only 90 minutes away so not awful and a reasonable risk IMOGassing Station | Mazda MX5/Roadster/Miata | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
