Still looking for the right car at the right trice but can anyone tell me the difference between and icon and a sport?
Also how important is it to have a Mazda FSH or is it ok to trust a local non Mazda garage that has carried out the full service schedule?

I'm assuming your looking at the pre-facelift Mk2's.

The Sport is pretty much a fully specced car, LSD, leather, 6 speed, factory appearance package, only made 200 or so, colours were red and blue.
The Icons also well specced but didn't have the bodykit or leather as standard iirc.

The Sport and 10th anniversary edition were the best specced pre-facelift Mk2's available.

Mk1 and Mk2 MX5's are pretty simple cars. I only had my first service done at the dealer while it was under warranty. I've always used mx5 specialists or good independents since.

That does look nice and I was in Wales last week but it's a long way from where I am. Interesting to know that the Sport has an LSD. I had one on the Caterham I sold recently. Does make life more fun.

The 7 got pretty hot as the exhaust was on the drivers side. Tbh I'm looking to spend around £7k for a sub 40k mile example. There are a few about from time to time and I hope to stick the BBR 200 kit on it.

Watch for the rot on subframes and suspension, I looked at many and lack of protection on U.K roads when used in winter really shows, and lack of service is a issue. Odd thing is that the oil pressure gauge on all is actually a vacuum gauge ( dummy). Prone to engine issues due to low oil level because of the above, especially if run up to standard service intervals and left unchecked.

Can it be replaced with a proper oil gauge? I think I'm right in saying the engine is basically a Duratec and when installed in 7s they have oil gauges.

Guessing a none standard could be mounted somewhere and there is likely to a blanked sender space on the engine/ oil pump.
There will be others on here which will now better than me..I would imagine they fit a proper one in the MX5 race series cars.

You mention rust on suspension and sub frames is this an issue on Mk3s or MX5s in general?

All really...on the MK3 look at where the sill bends around just in front of the rear arches on the inner side of the sill... The stones from the front wheels tend get thrown back and beat up the stonechip paint and leave it metal exposed.

Great car though and I have kept mine much longer than lots of other cooler and faster more expensive stuff. Just time for a change as my work has changed.

Well, 9k gets you a 10 plate 3.5 Sport Tech. Just saying you may need to rethink if you want to sell.
